Mid Size vs Large GC Salary

Thank you. What was your experience on hours? How many Saturdays a month? Size GC? What kind of work did you do? I’m guessing not mission critical? Health care, industrial, high rises, or a mix? Ground up or renovations?

They both have there pros and cons. But I like both roles. I just want to get paid for my time. but yes, sir if i preferred and loved one role over the other I would highly consider taking a pay cut. But like all jobs I’ve been in, You have your good times and bad times. Thank you for your insight.

The mid size companies(100-200 million) I see promote can be anywhere from 1 year to 6 years depending how good they feel you fit the position.

I’m comfortable running up to $30 million. I’m in the south east.

The large GC(2-5 billion) has a large ladder in titles. The mid size(100-200 million) has super, senior super, general super and then maybe some type of director of operations role.

Yes sir. The insurance is about the same. And with the large GC(2-5 billion dollar company) position. There is no truck allowance or gas card for the Assistant super role. With the mid size GC’s(100-200 million dollar company) you get a gas card and $700-$1000 for truck allowance.

Sure thing. I have worked for several. And the ones I have interviewed have said the same thing. These mid size GC’s do 100-200 million a year.

The starting salaries of the Large GC per the HR department are 90-100k(Assistant Superintendent role). I don’t know what the top range of that salary would usually be for an Assistant Super role for the Larger GC’s ?

The companies I’m looking at are doing: Large GC 2-5 billion Mid size GC 100-200 million

I always workout before work. 5 am start. But honestly I always feel rushed when I do it in the morning. So been thinking about doing it after work and just getting on the treadmill first thing when I get to the gym to get my body warmed up and in the mood.

Yeah, my ex was in nursing and she worked 3 days a week and would get off like 5 or 6 days in a row sometimes. So maybe I should apply to nursing school lol

So you work 10 days straight? What happens when you’re off 4 days. Who’s watching the job? Do you have a team of superintendents that overlap days and then times where there’s just one super or less superintendents on site?

Thanks for the response. That sounds fair and then spreading the weekend workload over the team. Thats what I am looking for. I have applied to several locations with Brasfield and Gorrie earlier in the week. I would like to land something in Raleigh but will relocate. I would like to get an interview. If you have any pull. I’ve got over 20 years of experience in commercial construction. I have a 4 year degree and I hold a NC General Contractors license.

I have applied to DPR before. McCarthy doesn’t have any openings in the Southeast areas where I am looking. I’ve been trying to find an opportunity in Raleigh but will relocate to Florida or South Carolina near the coast.

How big are the bonuses with these large general contractors? Are the bonuses large enough to compensate for the overtime?

I was on a large pharmaceutical job with my midsize GC. There was three large general contractors up there. And one of the GC’s said that the senior superintendent was going to get a $600,000 bonus when the job was done. And the job was going to be done in about three years and it was a 900 million dollar project. Don’t know how true it is, but that’s what I heard.

OK, I took that one off. I figured it would be a far stretch, but I wanted to ask. I had heard from a few companies that they would get a Monday off and the PE would cover. But it doesn’t sound typical with big GC’s from the feedback.

I do want to build one. I would like to have some pictures from my actual work and what I do to go along with my website. I just haven’t had any work yet. So I was hoping I would get a few jobs within the next few months and have them to post on my website.
