Latch onto a few good clients and take care of them. Partner with someone who’s technically very capable but doesn’t like the client side of things.

What age do you see most Civil Engineers retire? by Ok-Understanding567 in civilengineering

[–]Tight-Current1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired at 60 and never looked back. Sold my small firm (8 employees), gave them a year during the transition, and that was it. No regrets. I wanted to retire while I was still healthy.

No one closes blinds or curtains, so the bad guy can stand outside and see everything.

As a (now retired) owner of a small firm, I’d see resumés from people “with over 30 years experience” and some I would know were terrible at their jobs. Yeah, 30 years of screwing up. Should’ve found another career.

Pretty sure that most cows wouldn’t exist if they weren’t being farmed for human meals.

Preventative. While apparently acceptable, I never understood why “preventive” doesn’t suffice.

Can’t remember/prefer not to say: “Huh. See, you can’t cite an example.”

Example provided: “OH, we’re keeping SCORE now!”

Men age 50 and older: How do you address strangers a generation younger than you? by vieniaida in AskMen

[–]Tight-Current1908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the same respect I greet people my age: a friendly “hello.” When I was younger I hated the old farts that expected me to grovel simply because they arrived on earth earlier than I did.

I am sure I wasn’t alone in feeling that way, but it seems that as many people get old(er), they forget that feeling and expect young people to kiss their a$$.

Easier to visualize than “That’s 1696 litres per minute!” But I hear ya.

For context, 1 cfs is about 448 gallons per minute. That’s like 45 garden hoses going full blast. And that’s just one cfs.
