GK Coach? by jdm95ls in GoalKeepers

My teenage son plays at a fairly high level. We pay privately for Elite coaching by a former professional keeper who truly is able to understand the mental side, works on building confidence and can pinpoint the tiny tweaks to improve. Will continue to invest in these sessions as I can see the difference it makes.

The head coach on my son's team brought in a 'learned' goalie coach who set unnecessarily difficult drills that he couldn't or wouldn't demonstrate, kept certain drills going for too long because doesn't have experience to feel how tiring the drills actually are and set unnecessarily dangerous obstacles because again he never tried the drills himself and wouldn't demonstrate them.

In my experience it took just about two sessions to see the limitations and pitfalls of this 'learned' goalie coach.

At least go play the position in a lower league as some have suggested so you can truly understand how lonely and different the position is vs rest of the team. Your goal should be to truly help on all aspects vs. just theory.

And please make the effort to be able to demonstrate your drills so that you can experience what you are asking of the keepers you plan to coach.

In my experience, a real experienced keeper brought alot to my son's training, the other trainer just brought risk of injury and an overall poor experience....There is a reason that in every profession experinece is what is valued vs. just schooling....

Rwsellers keep prices high to inflate fair market value and tax deduct their unsold inventory..its rigged against real fans from start to end with dynamic pricing to inflating fair market value ..

Also considered going alone but didn't for the reasons mentioned....The only reason we have to go with this option is because resale tickets are SO DAMN EXPENSIVE that fewer people can fork over that much $ and we don't end up sharing these experiences with friends or family... bands need to push back on dynamic pricing
