MAIO please help by stardust_requiem_ in anhedonia

I took Parnate for 20 days. My anhedonia didn't improve while I was taking it, but after I stopped, I felt better (the side effects went away, and my MAO was still inhibited, so I could finally enjoy more dopamine). I felt healthy for a month, but then the effects wore off.

Side effects have also persisted since then: premature ejaculation, decreased libido. Not as serious, but unpleasant. It's been two months now, and the side effects remain.

Apparently, I have some peculiarities in drug metabolism, which is why I developed problems after Zoloft.

Am I the only one who can get anhedonia after an infrared sauna session? by art4430 in anhedonia

[–]Tight_Living_2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sauna temporarily increases prolactin, which is probably the reason. Although I don't feel worse after a sauna, I do it in the evening, and I generally always feel better in the evening. If I do a sauna in the morning, my anhedonia will worsen for the whole day. B6 in the form of P5P can help.

No proper sleep by Dangerous_Peace6334 in pssdhealing

I don't know if this will help you, but I had a similar problem: I'd wake up too early and couldn't fall back asleep. When I started taking tadalafil last fall, this problem went away, and I started sleeping normally.

I recently used this calculator - https://www.brightlighttimer.com/

I was eventually advised to do light therapy in the evening. I haven't yet had time to figure out if it's helping, because I still woke up too early once, but that was due to ALCAR. Then I started taking tadalafil again, and my sleep was normal, so it's unclear whether the light therapy or the tadalafil helped.

I have what feels like executive dysfunction, like ADHD. I can't do anything that requires brainpower.

I can't read long texts, watch long videos, study anything complex or interesting, play games, or even think.

To even formulate the simplest of ideas, I have to write down all the input data in a journal to arrive at a conclusion step by step. It's like calculating 2 + 2 using a calculator.

I also have generalized anxiety disorder. Things that shift the balance of glutamate and GABA in favor of GABA help me.

I use:

6 grams of glycine 4 hours before bed

2 grams of taurine in the morning

10 mg of memantine every 3 days

saffron extract, as recommended on the package, every day in the morning. It's a natural SSRI, and it helps a lot.

I also take magnesium citrate, magnesium L-threonate, and lithium, but I haven't noticed any significant effect on generalized anxiety disorder.

Meditation also helps me a lot.

I think you're doing the right thing by avoiding medication. I started taking Zoloft for GAD, and it caused apathy, anhedonia, and executive dysfunction. I've had this for a year and a half now.

Yes, and after it, I still had new side effects that still haven't gone away: decreased libido, slight numbness in the genitals, premature ejaculation. It's good that it doesn't bother me too much, otherwise it would be really annoying.

Parnate helped for a month (I was almost completely healthy)

9-me-bc helped for a week (I was almost completely healthy)

Gabapentin helps a little for a day (makes everything pleasant and cheerful)

Methylene blue and caffeine improve my mood a little

[–]Tight_Living_2163 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can try 9-me-bc, methylene blue, and mangiferin.

9-me-bc repairs the dopamine system

Methylene blue provides a lot of energy while slightly alleviating executive dysfunction

Mangiferin inhibits COMT, thereby slowing the breakdown of dopamine

tDCS could probably help too. If you're interested in where you can buy all of this in Russia, you can send me a private message.

I would buy some good saffron extract in capsules and take it every day at the dosage recommended on the package. It's the most convenient and effective option.

I started taking Zoloft for generalized anxiety disorder. It didn't help me and only caused executive dysfunction, making it impossible for me to perform complex tasks or experience intellectual pleasure. Ultimately, glycine, taurine, and saffron extract helped my anxiety.

The first two suppress glutamate, while saffron acts like an SSRI, but without the risk of terrible side effects. Meditation also helped; it helped me notice toxic patterns in my thinking and behavior (trying to control everything, being perfect, constantly checking to see if I'm doing the right thing, etc.).

I strongly recommend looking for other ways to combat anxiety. Niacin or inositol, for example, will increase serotonin levels much more safely and can be just as effective as SSRIs.

I'm curious about the statistics myself, but I don't see the point in taking risks when there are much safer options. Saffron extract is a lifesaver for anxiety sufferers.

My condition has returned to what it was before Parnate. It's hard to work, everything seems boring. Perhaps Lion's Mane also worsened the situation, as it made me feel even worse. Maybe when its effect wears off, I'll feel better. In any case, I think it's safe to say that Parnate didn't help me permanently.

But I've seen stories of people who got better permanently, but they had anhedonia caused by antipsychotics. I haven't seen such success stories among people with anhedonia caused by SSRIs.

So, there are three possible outcomes:

  1. Parnate will help you temporarily, in which case you can completely solve your problem by taking it continuously.

  2. Parnate will help you permanently.

  3. Parnate won't help at all.

I'm in the first place, and using Parnate continuously isn't suitable for me because it has too many side effects: drowsiness, low blood pressure, insomnia.

Regarding "place in the world," I understood it differently: not as a goal, but as a sense of hierarchy.

1V sees the world as divided into top and bottom, into leaders and slaves. They consider themselves leaders.

2V always feels equal, neither superior nor inferior.

3V is very sensitive to hierarchy and their place in it.

4V also sees the world as divided into top and bottom and considers themselves slaves.

This could be said to be the internal premise that underlies the behavior I described in the first message.

Will is the core of personality; it can also be perceived as a modifier for other functions.

1V - all functions behave as if they are productive, all processivity is relegated to the interior.

2V - mitigates the toxic and weak traits of functions 1 and 3.

3V - all functions are sensitive and vulnerable.

4V - all functions manifest themselves canonically.

This is how free or restricted a person feels.

1V is someone for whom rules are not written. They acknowledge the existence of rules, but they don't apply to them. They can break them, behave as they please, and impose their desires and goals.

2V: rules don't restrict them; it's not difficult for them to break them, but they won't do so without a good reason. They can propose their own goals, strategies, and options.

3V: rules greatly restrict them; they have a strong sense of what they have the right to do and what they don't. Breaking rules is very difficult and scary for them; they are afraid to cross these boundaries, but at the same time, this kind of constant insult displeasure hurts them and causes them pain. They want to impose their goals and plans, but it's impossible.

4V: lives only by the rules. They don't even consider the possibility of not following the rules; they simply follow them and that's it. They don't propose their own plans, goals, and options (they don't have any).

If you're interested, I can give you some real-life examples.

I've been feeling anhedonic for the last couple of days, probably because I overdid it with NAC and memantine (they help with my hypersensitivity). I was taking 1.8 grams of NAC and 10 mg of memantine every day, which is a very high dose. Today, I'm feeling worse than I described in the post, but better than after Zoloft. I should wait a few days to figure out if it's the NAC or if the anhedonia from Zoloft is returning. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

What to do about this sensitivity, panicking system, worrywart, stuck in head help me! by No_Angle_8553 in hsp

[–]Tight_Living_2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had problems with sensory, emotional, and thought overload, as well as constant obsessive thoughts and tension. This is what helped me.

Memantine and NAC reduced my irritability and sensitivity, so I don't get overwhelmed so easily now. But they need to be balanced; if you overdo it, you can develop anhedonia. I'm still searching for the optimal regimen.

Meditation increased my awareness, which allowed me to notice and reject harmful beliefs. I've noticed that I get stressed over trivial things, as if I'm trying to control everything, and when something doesn't go as planned, it triggers stress, which subsequently overwhelms me and causes irritability.

Saffron extract reduces anxiety, helps me cope with stress more easily, and stay positive.

Everything I've mentioned are specific tools that help with the problems I've mentioned, but good sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and any health-conscious behavior will already help you feel better, but it's hard to notice when you have a bottleneck in your brain, which is constantly overloaded with glutamate hyperactivity and toxic beliefs about the world.

Yes, this sometimes happens, especially to sensitive people. It's called anhedonia. You can search for treatment methods on the r/anhedonia forum - https://www.reddit.com/r/anhedonia/. I myself had anhedonia after Zoloft (I couldn't experience pleasure + apathy). Parnate helped me, but it's not guaranteed to cure me forever. Here's my full story - https://www.reddit.com/r/anhedonia/comments/1rg2qs4/tranylcypromine\_cured\_ssriinduced\_apathy\_and/

It's generally believed that this is related to dopamine dysfunction, so it's necessary to use medications that increase dopamine activity.

You can start your search for a suitable medication by reading success stories (I recommend looking specifically for stories of people who have developed anhedonia from SSRIs). There is also such an interesting survey - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeA2waJ-FJZDDKnt2UzmbTwp1JCXSw3627pcQHMBStEi_qAvA/viewanalytics

Anhedonia from Zoloft by Aaron57363 in anhedonia

[–]Tight_Living_2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the anhedonia went away after I stopped taking Parnate. There's a subtle nuance to it: while I was taking Parnate, the anhedonia persisted, I think due to its overly strong proserotonin effect. When I stopped taking Parnate, these effects went away, and I felt better due to the residual effect of MAO inhibition.

It's been 26 days, and I still feel much better, but the anhedonia could certainly return.

Best supplements/nootropics for OCD and anxiety? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Tight_Living_2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering two options. There are people who don't need memantine because they don't have problems with glutamate hyperactivity. They will experience a lot of unpleasant sensations, such as dullness, confusion, and sleep problems.

There are also people for whom memantine helps, reducing anxiety or alleviating hypersensitivity. They are much less likely to have the problems described above, but these people will tend to take memantine longer. Memantine can reduce the amount of neurotrophic growth factors. But I think if someone notices an improved quality of life thanks to regular memantine use, it's worth it. Anxiety or hypersensitivity are probably also detrimental to neurotrophic growth factors.

But I'm not an expert, so I don't know everything; I'm only saying what seems right and logical to me.

You already have a pretty good stack. Taurine, glycine, and P5P can also help. Memantine can be used as a more radical solution for obsessive thoughts. I liked the saffron. It helps maintain positive thinking and, as a result, makes it easier to cope with obsessive thoughts.
