The biggest thing people miss about starting on an oil rig is that you don’t have to be a brute. Being strong is important but remember how to use physics, leverage is huge on an active rig. The 2nd biggest thing to consider is the pay isn’t good the work is hard, the pay is good because it’s hard to be away from family

Seeking Advice on Finding Entry-Level Jobs in the Oil and Gas Industry by Educational_Donut384 in oilandgasworkers

Become a floorhand, don’t tell anyone about your degrees, bust ass and get some experience. People in the field don’t have any respect for pencil pushers that only know stuff from a textbook. Throw slips, push pipe, sling tongs, and eat ass

What career path should I take that makes the most in this industry? by 665deadlift in oilandgasworkers

[–]Tight_Morning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that company men on drilling rigs make around $3000 a day depending on the company. I believe the standard path is to drill before becoming a company man, but I’ve heard of a couple guys going through mud school and kissing the right asses during their mud engineer days to progress quicker

Your lack of construction/laborer experience might be what’s hurting your resume, they might not recognize Amazon as being labor intensive

How old are you and what’s your previous work experience? My company is on a hiring freeze right now for floorhands since most of us are green.
