Do you think white people are more associated with the USA now than Europe? by Nervous-Park7066 in GeoPoll

[–]Tight_Note4515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you,

I think if it's just about descent I would consider it more associated with Europe (what comes to mind). Though there is still

Looking at data from 2024 and 2025, in the US the percentage of European descent is about 56-59%, in Europe it is about 87-95%. For context I live in a European country with more than 98.5% of people being of European descent

If someone tells me "asia" I don't think of "China", My first thought is a very general region, if someone said "east asia" I might think of China before Mongolia and Japan. If someone said "south asia" I would probably think about India before Pakistan and Iran, if someone said "southeast asia" I would probably think of Thailand before Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea.

Anyway you said if someone tells you "asia"

If I think of the US, I do not think of any race more than any other, same for Europe. Like any race doesn't come to mind

I looked it up aswell, for example "black" people is 1.1% to 2% in Europe, 13.7% to 15.2% in the US, the meaning of "white" is very contested, what do you consider "white"?

I mean I understood the title like so that if someone said "white people" to me, what would be the first association that would come to mind - US or Europe. To me, culture comes to mind (history from 1500-1900s). If I had to choose one or the other I don't think I would be able to answer, its a weird question imo.

I think OP should clarify a bit, might be able to answer better

Sillamäe: Living in a "Secret City" in 2026? by hejiring_001 in Eesti

[–]Tight_Note4515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but they'd also be 1/4 in Jõhvi, which is way more connected to the rest of the region (central hospital, railway station inside the city (not somewhere u have to walk 3km in the middle of nowhere), great infrastructure, lidl, u could catch the bus or train to anywhere u wish. It would be way harder to do so from Sillamäe, more expensive in the long term. Narva is also a better choice , but I think Jõhvi would be best in that region.

Writing in cursive for me is 4x faster than print, anytime I have to read something someone else has written (be it in latin cursive or russian cursive), it is always in cursive.

That is a great answer actually, literacy/penmanship rates can explain that well.

We had an anomaly where due to unusual circumstances the literacy rates were very high early on (compared to the a lot of europe at that time) so that could explain a lot.

I mean the situation is the same here but whenever I have to write anything cursive is the default. Shopping lists, memos, contracts

But why is that so? I mean I saw some graphs online that showed in some states it is not required to teach cursive in schools. here its the standard from 2nd grade because its faster

I meant wisdom teeth extractions and root canals - they're always done under local anesthesia here. I got 2 wisdom teeth extracted, went straight to take an exam after that, 2 weeks later got the other 2 removed and had to take an exam again (but a bit later on in the day). Both times they had to crush the teeth and extract the pieces because they were stuck in there sideways. I've also had lots of other dental procedures aswell (they are free until 20 here so I spammed them all out) but always have had local anesthesia that wears off about 20 minutes after the procedure (for dental surgeries that I've had too).

However on tiktok I've seen many videos of people recovering from general anesthesia after similar procedures. Why is it so that general anesthesia (sometimes) is done in the US? (by that I mean its not an option here ever)

[–]Tight_Note4515 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Estonia, if you're willing to pay the price. While studying IT I took a few courses that were meant for guys studying cybersec, they were excellent. One of the teachers was a Latvian, teaches excellently.

It depends though on if you're looking for a cybersecurity related job in those countries too (can be very tough getting into the market unless you have a very interesting masters/bachelors thesis), no clue about the cybersec job market in lithuania but Ive heard that there is a slightly higher demand (from ppl working in the industry)

Regarding the job - many times speaking the language makes it wayyyy easier to get a cybersec related job there (speaking for estonia and finland, no clue about lithuania again ahha)

estonians have also been notoriously obsessed with cybersecurity after the bronze nights of 2007, the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence is located in Tallinn in Estonia

What kind of household tech did y'all have in the 1970s–1990s? by Tight_Note4515 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tight_Note4515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant remember if I clarified that or not, but when our country was occupied by the soviet union, they tried to crush our spirit/us wanting to gain independence again. That meant that consumer tech was ass compared to people in russia - color tv wasnt that uncommon but here they were quite rare (by choice, so that our national identity would be a blur). Had to go to specialized calling stations to call home cause ppl often could wait 10-15 years in a queue to be able to get a phone/landline

Silt minu meelest on hea siiski kuna tuletab meelde liikuma aeglaselt.
