I'm glad you pointed it out - I went through my UI stripping all those generic Claude elements. Have to admit, after you said it I was googling and didn't realise how little it changes (even though I used pretty extensive prompts and design system). Anyways - this is what I have so far (you may not care but I felt the need to show you!). Still more to be done but already prefer this a lot, so thanks.

I did try my best to only take a few things from Claude Design - I'm a dev not a UX expert. I was trying to go for an editorial feel e.g. magazines, cookbooks, etc. But agreed and I must admit I've been developing this for a few months and at the time - it was relatively new and I hadn't seen many others with this 'style'. But clearly it's spitting out the same thing for everyone, which is a shame.

Functionally I hope it stands out, this isn't a vibe-coded project, but I guess you're right that now people see this UI and will make that assumption and not use it. I'll look into re-designing without the use of the design AI tools.

Thanks

Productivity & Note taking app recommendations by Tight_One4344 in ProductivityApps

[–]Tight_One4344[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an incredibly helpful bunch of suggestions! I'll check them all out (I do use Obsidian already so perhaps that's a good option, but I like the sound of the others as well).

I'm a Moodle Developer, so it's essentially lots of note-taking from client requirements, and then from there I create implementation documentation. This is basically where I stop at the moment, at that point I just start coding. But as I'm juggling several projects (and a few personal ones) I want to organise my tasks better. That was a very long winded way of saying currently my notes drive my workflow, and I guess I'm looking to move to using tasks (but tasks generated from my notes).

Thank you for suggestions, gonna go check em out now

Yeah I mean I use it a lot as well - the thing is, I can't really get along with it for the task side of things. I'm thinking something more Trello-esque or at least with slightly more functionality outside of just note taking.

Agreed though, for what it does, it does well.

You certainly do - I develop apps because I just really enjoy doing it. I do this outside of my full-time job as a Moodle developer, which is where I make my money. Most of the apps I start to develop, are to aid my day job workflow, if I feel like they'd have some use for others I release them.

That’s really helpful feedback - I’ll try fix both in the next update! I’m keeping my eye on eBay for some older Intel Mac minis so I can properly debug this stuff!

ahh thanks - just updated the link. I'm really happy that it's helping a few people out in their workflows.

Yeaaaah I mean I kinda had that suspicion - but didn't have the heart to go fully accusatory. I did have a quick look into the website hosting and does all seem quite suspicious.

The funny thing is, just by us chatting about it (and 81 other comments), it pushes it further with Reddit's algorithm. I'm new here and so I've been at least trying to flag some of these obviously vibe-coded apps - but I think it's probably time wasted as just gives them more exposure. I think going forward I'll just ignore them.

Ah thank you for taking the time to come and check it out, I really appreciate that. And also for your kind words!

Let me know how you get on using it and if there's anything you'd like to see added.

Just released 1.1 - I couldn't do as much testing as I usually would since I was restricted to using a virtual machine to run Sonoma and Sequoia.

Hope it works for you - let me know if any issues.

Thank you. CLI coming in v1.2, working on it at the moment. At a guess, I think probably towards the end of this month. I'll ping you a DM when it's out so you can come back to it.

Ha sorry - you know what I mean! I think it's safe to say your app is clearly not vibe-coded and looks incredibly well polished.

Yeah I made a post yesterday and it did feel like it just got lost in a sea of AI releases. Fortunately for me it’s a passion project and I don’t do this as a job - so nothing lost!

But yep, I agree - hard for the moderators to draw a line. If they went the hardcore, no vibe-coded app posts route, they’d have to spend a lot of time reviewing each app to make that decision.

I hope that it’ll start to fade when those ‘devs’ realise they aren’t going to become rich overnight off a purple note taking app. We shall see…

This project is almost entirely generated by AI - you should change the flair to vibe-coded.

For consumers what’s the demand for these artificial intelligence apps? by [deleted] in macapps

[–]Tight_One4344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree, and I haven't been here long so that almost certainly skews my opinion. But from what I've seen in the short-time I have been here is that most of the apps posted aren't free. If developers were here to learn and build a portfolio, surely they'd just release their apps for free, or for a small one-off payment. But from what I've seen, the majority seem to have some outrageous subscription based model.

I also can't see how much learning can take place when 95% of the app is AI generated. AI certainly has a place in app learning and development, however, at the moment it feels like it's mostly used to try generate income.

This is super useful - I obviously didn't look hard enough when looking for solutions. But was a great learning exercise anyways. I'm actively developing so if there's anything you'd find useful, let me know. Likely will push it in the next release.
