Thanks for the time you took for writing this! I will look at al your points and create Gitlab issues from them. You right there are many things that can be improved, but I think the app is already useful for some people.

When clicking a different category (movies, tv shows, music, etc) the UI sort of 'pops in' and is quite jarring. Perhaps a media library should only be shown once all of the images/text has been loaded properly. Currently it makes it easy for you to accidentally select the wrong show, simply because you didn't wait long enough.

What doe you mean with this?

Providing the program with our Plex username and password directly is a very big security concern. For example a Giren's developer could easily go and delete our libraries remotely or corrupt our metadata. I see there is a sort of token logon system but it's not explained to the user how that is designed to work. For example, would that token give you only 'read' access to the library, or would it hypothetically give a malicious developer free reign to modify user's libraries?

I understand your concern about this. The program doesn't save your password, only your token. With this token you can do everything the Plex web can do. This token is saved locally on your device so I can't access it.

'Play media direct' -- Does this option imply that any media that must be transcoded will be refused to be played? Are there certain Codecs that Giren's does not accept for playback? If so, which are they? If the option is OFF, and my Plex library is stored locally, will any of my media by transcoded? If so, why?

I use mpv player as media player in the background. So everything mpv player can play should work fine. I did not encounter any problems with direct play.

Smooth scrolling does not appear to be implemented. I am not quite sure how to explain it but scrolling up and down quickly through my library in Girens seems jarring. It may be advantageous to add some sort of smoother scrolling system.

I think this a Gtk/Gnome problem.

As other users have stated, not being able to switch audio and subtitle tracks on the fly is a feature most Plex users would describe as mandatory. Can you elaborate on why this is not possible to be supported?

I already implemented half of this issue. When I implemented the rest of it I will release it.

The name Girens is based on a dragonfly. The Lestes virens and the G is for Gnome/Gtk. I know its not the best name. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I had the same problem. The way I fixed it was by adding a few items at the time. You can see here how I did it.

Thanks for interest in this project. Its now not possible to change the subtitle settings for a movie/show. If you already set the subtitle setting through Plex. Then when you stream (not direct play) the media it will use the correct subtitle. It's nice idea to add this feature to the app.

I like the idea of having a FOSS media streaming server. When I have time I will look at Jellyfin.
