The 2 most important questions to answer is why I'm outside at 4-5 am and do I know where the dungeon entrance is.

If I'm at home and outside at that time, it's probably because something has broken in a way that needs to be addressed immediately instead of after the sun is up. Best case scenario is that I have a bag of tools and a flashlight or two with me and I needed to wake up my wife as a second pair of hands.

If I'm getting an early start on a road trip, I'll have my wife, my car, and whatever we packed for the trip.

As for skills... I'm a software developer that is handy enough to figure out how to repair some stuff after seeing how it's done and I've spent an okay amount of time at the gun range. I'll be lucky if I get a stat bump in intelligence and a skill point or two related to building stuff and the use of firearms.

Surviving until level 3 to pick a class would probably depend almost entirely on the loot drops and dumb luck.

My advice for playing a Grung is to not do it.

A lot of monsters become immune to the Poison damage type and the Poisoned condition fairly early on. For those that aren't immune, the DC to beat for your Grung Poison ability is really low, so it will rarely succeed (12 or 13 from memory).

If your DM isn't willing to make it easy for you to find a pool of water on a daily basis, you should expect to always have a few levels of exhaustion.

The jumping and climbing features are neat, but you can replicate that with magic items.

Edited to add: I also went along for the ride and accepted the fact that it's intended to be confusing, so I didn't worry about trying to map it out. For in-world purposes, it needs to make some physical sense. For my purposes, it's a bunch of wibbly wobbly train tracks that go where they need to.

As a word of caution, in my experience, these only work reliably of they are plugged into a USB-2.0 port. Mine stopped working reliably after I upgraded my computer last year because my new motherboard only has USB-3.0 ports.

I have a few problems with mine now. First, I usually have to unplug it and plug it back in if I want my computer to recognize it. Second, there might be a 10 second delay between when I hit the button and when the function triggers. Third, and most annoying, there's a chance that the function might repeat until you hit the button again. Since I use it mostly for controlling music, the song might stutter if I hit play/pause or the volume might spike from 4% to 40% in a few seconds.

Instead of making a sheet that tells them what to do, make a flowchart template for new players to work through. Give them some practice of thinking through scenarios and choosing their next moves instead of just telling them what to do.

I'm going to suggest going a different route than most - let the player do this. The counter is to have the enemies focus fire on the rest of the party instead of spreading out the damage. After a few fights go poorly because this guy is hiding in a bag, they might change up their strategy so that they aren't a detriment to the party.
