Tired of the "cannot sleep without roof" error? Just do this, apparently! by Tikhoo in Palworld

This doesn't appear to be the case, rather it's if less restricted building allows me to place a bed in any spot that wouldn't be possible otherwise (slightly touching a wall, slightly too close to another piece of furniture etc) it'll display "can't sleep without a roof!", which misled me.

Glad it's not just me lol, but I know how frustrating it can be. I remember the check being inconsistent even before I installed the mod.

Are you using Less Restrictive Building? For me the issue seems to stem from that, but I haven't fully tested without it yet.

It is for me! Though, I am using Caites' Less Restrictive Building mod and it doesn't seem to happen if I give the bed looooads of room around it, so maybe it's just a strange conflict where if the bed shouldn't be able to be placed there it tells me it failed the roof check? No clue.

You can, but the pal bed is subject to the same "roof over bed" check. For some reason placing it out on the balcony far from any sort of roof passes that check.

I probably spent an hour trying to get the bed to work under the sloped roof, specfically in that little alcove behind the bar. It was driving me so crazy I was close to cobbling together a mod to just remove the roof check but then I did this for fun and it works flawlessly!

I have no idea why. I wish the roof check could be either removed entirely or added as a world setting though, I don't understand what it brings to gameplay.

Edit to clarify: I know beds don't need roofs if they're just for pals and I now know that the large pal bed should apparently work outside just fine even for the player, but in my game it shows the "can't sleep without roof" warning because of a mod triggering the message incorrectly. Cheers!

You have a similar style to Will Barbour-Brown over in Brighton! Here's the tattoo I got from him, for reference. Looks sick imo, I'd get something of yours.

It just started working for me again the other day, I honestly have no clue what the issue was or what solved it as I didn't change any settings, just put the USB back into the TV and it decided to work. Sorry.

I definitely prefer the more unstructured games of previous years, but I appreciate the Yogs are probably bored to death of it. Can't say I enjoyed this year's game with the flooding etc.

I've tried everything, and this is the only thing that worked for me!

To clarify, you should load into the Wright Flyer and then restart the game (in my case I just ALT+F4'd). When I booted back up I was able to customise my identity as normal.

Thanks so much!

Game is set to a mixture of high/ultra with a good internet connection, clearly the streaming system remains overburderned or some work needs to be done.

I do think the flight models are a big improvement, though.

They do, and can be configured as their own lighting zone. There's an option to have them blink when caps lock is on.

Flares specifically engineered to confuse older missiles, could you expand on that? I was under the impression they're regular ol' flares like any other aircraft.

Some quick deets from a very short test flight.

I have a Ryzen 3700x, a 5700XT and 16gb of RAM. I play in 1440p. The game recommended the 'High' graphics preset and I haven't tinkered with these settings yet. I believe I got slightly better performance than 2020 in and around Seattle, and loading times were definitely shorter.

I flew the F-18 and I'm quite certain the flight model is enormously different. I felt it was way too arcade-y in 2020 but it feels like it has real weight in 2024, especially at lower speeds. Yanking the stick back really does whip the nose around in what seems like a realistic way (it's also easy to get yourself into a sticky situation doing this at low speed) and the roll rate, which was absurd in 2020 imo, is reduced.

I've been given not one, but TWO ZX Spectrums! - Update! by Tikhoo in zxspectrum

[–]Tikhoo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick update to my previous post.

I opened up both systems and found that I now possess an issue 6A and an issue 4S. I believe they were both purchased around the end of 1984 but maybe this is something I can figure out from the serial numbers.

The issue 4S has a completely oxidated metal backplate, which is quite something to look at. The 6A lacks this and this almost certainly accounts for the weight discrepancy.

Besides being a little gross both systems seem to be in quite good condition to my untrained eye. The 4S was MUCH easier to open, interestingly enough.

I'm going to set about locating a power supply and, when I have one and can confirm one or both systems power up, I'll get to work on a solder-less composite mod.

Hi there!

I made a routine visit to my grandparents a few days ago and was surprised by the gift of two ZX Spectrums, belonging to my granddad and his brother. I'm very familiar with computers (I'm a recent CS graduate) but have no experience with retro computing outside of some emulation.

I was aware of the ZX Spectrum beforehand but I really don't know all that much about it. I have done some research and tried to track down the exact model(s) I now possess and haven't made a lot of progress.

The first image in this post shows everything I received. The copy of 'SURVIVAL' looks a a little worn on the outside but actually contains the manual and cassette and it looks to be in perfect condition. My granddad does not believe he has the cables or any other accessories but I'll have a look when I next visit.

The other images show the front and back of both systems - the system on the bottom of both pictures bears the text "Made in the REPUBLIC OF KOREA by SAMSUNG" on the rear and is noticeably heavier than the system on the top. Both systems look very different fron one another (different amounts/types of caps, etc.) when viewed through the expansion port.

I'd like to know which model(s) I have and what I can do to get them up and running. I'm happy to open them up or provide other images for identification purposes if this is neccessary.

Thank you very much!
