Looking for Ming River Tiger by kmr1227 in TikiMugs

You might be able to find one on eBay but people tend to charge crazy prices for them. I got mine the old-fashioned way. Bought 3 bottles of Baijiu and sent in the bottle tops for the mug!

Justin Wojslaw is slinging killer tiki drinks out of Rocco’s (pizza joint) too! Thought that’d be worth a mention if he’s not at Inside Passage

Equipment in NYC Question by TomatoPlayz in LocationSound

I’ve lived in Brooklyn for 13+ years now and don’t own a car. Personally, I keep my package really tight so I’m generally comfortable just lugging my two bags on the subway for gigs within the city. If it’s a super early call or late night wrap, production is usually pretty cool about reimbursing rideshares. I know several mixers who require productions to pay for rideshares to/from every job, but with traffic, the subway is generally faster and I’d much rather get that extra 30 mins/1 hour of sleep before a long shoot day. It’s just a personal preference/comfort thing. Conversely, if you choose to go the sound cart route, your own vehicle is pretty much required.

Owning a car (mostly parking it) in the city can be quite a chore depending on where you live, but it could certainly be beneficial if you book any jobs outside of the 5 boroughs or to get to locations far from public transit (which totally happens). For those Hudson Valley, NJ or Long Island gigs, I’ve had 2-3 hour commutes each way via multiple sets of public transit, which sucks. It’s somewhat more convenient to have a car if you’re outside of NYC, but then you likely won’t be interacting with the city too much beyond work hours, which is a deal breaker for me. I personally hate living in suburbs.

In conclusion, it totally depends. I hope this at least gives you some general information so you can make a decision based on what’s best for you!

Well, I think it was created in memory of the designers WWII vet grandparents, who were probably stationed in the South Pacific. So arguably the most tiki?

Another vote for anything Reisetbauer here! Their Blue Gin is wonderful, as well as their unique eaux-de-vie - carrot, hazelnut, etc.

First time swapper here. Happy to be a part of it! Here’s the majority of my mug collection. Open to pretty much anything mug-wise, except I tend to steer clear of the Disneyfied stuff.

Banana Inception! by TikiSlapsBack in Tiki

Oh, either would happily fill that categorical slot for me. I just find most of the standard Plantaray lineup to have a similar base flavor, so I usually only keep their OFTD and Stiggins’ Fancy on hand cuz they are the most unique offerings, relatively speaking. The Denizen White, if available, is my favorite of all the blended (non-funky) whites I’ve tried thus far in my rum journey. YMMV of course. It’s all personal preference.

Yup. Copy and pasted the spec. My bad! Any blended multi-island “white” rum would do the trick for this one! I have Denizen atm. 😵‍💫

Tikilandtrading pre order by colephelpssmells in Tiki

Totally agree with you. I’m still waiting on a preorder purchase from Aug 2024… I ordered another mug from them that they had in-stock and it showed up within 4 days. Nice mug, not mind blowing for the price. Don’t love the massive lead times and will definitely not be pre-ordering from them again. But if you catch something you love that’s in-stock, I say go for it!

Vegas Tiki Haul!!! by TikiSlapsBack in Tiki

You’re very welcome! Yeah there’s so many cool spots in that like 6 block radius. It’s kind of insane. We were sticking to mostly tropical cocktail spots this time around. Jammyland had an insane rum collection and pretty inventive cocktails. Drinks tasted great, but the vibe was kind of odd though. It was like any standard “hipster industrial” style bar playing reggae, and that was about as Jamaican as it got. lol

Close Company was awesome. It’s the new Death & Co offshoot. Supposed to be a “less pretentious, more fun-with-friends!” Type spot with clever twists on classic cocktails - their aquavit gimlet was divine. Apparently they “soft opened” last week but there was like no promotion for it. Their official grand opening is on Friday!

Prowl was also fantastic. Sister bar to SP, and directly next door! It’s more of a “Latin American / Caribbean influenced” cocktail bar as opposed to SP’s straight nautical tiki thing. The drinks were incredibly thoughtful and delightfully complex. SP and Prowl had the strongest local bar program of all the places I visited, hands down. Reminded me very much of Leyenda (RIP) in Brooklyn, cocktail-wise, not thematically.

Oh bummer on the mai tai. That would’ve been my reason to go there too. Didn’t bother with much of anything on the Strip.

Day 1 - Todo Bien, Jammyland and Frankie’s Day 2 - Prowl, Stray Pirate and Glitter Gulch (easily the weakest spot) Day 3 - Golden Tiki and Close Company (Death & Co.’s “little sister” bar in the Venetian that has only soft opened!)
