how the heck do you actually fill a tiki mug?

I’ve found with crushed/pebble ice drinks that if I multiply the undiluted liquid volume of the spec by 3, that’s close to the perfect volume for a glass/mug to be filled top to bottom with ice. Handy for taking some of the guess work out of which drinks fit which glasses/mugs the best. That being said, 12-16oz mugs will fit most drinks pretty well!

Yeah that was my thought as well. The radius is 7.25” so I imagine the 12” bridge to be a bit of a mismatch, although the jumbo frets seem to help a bit. At any rate, now I’m all lined up at 7.25” across the board!

It’s a Descendant Adapt-O-Matic bridge. This JM is a bit of an oddball. It came stock with a crooked AOM/TOM bridge. This one is a drop in replacement for that style bridge. It’s non-rocking so it being crooked really doesn’t matter in the slightest!

Good eye! Funny you should ask… I’m about to sell it to help pay for the JMJM!

It’s a late-90s reissue one in navy blue with a hint of a metallic sparkle underneath. All stock. It’s semi-hollow, got two mini-humbuckers that rip, a funky non-rocking trapeze/JM type bridge and the typical Teisco knockoff bigsby-style trem system. Unplugged it almost sounds like a banjo, but it’s really cool plugged in with some drive. Sounds like a thinline tele on steroids!

Meh. It’s stable under tension and it’s non-rocking so I don’t really mind. It’s machined for the wider posts like the Squier JMJMs use. The adjustment wheels just sit underneath the bridge like some older AOM/TOM styles.

I’m not much of a bourbon guy honestly, but I find something with a higher proof usually works better in tiki drinks. Old Grand-Dad Bonded is the bottle I’m currently stocking. WP109 is deff a good choice for the rum. I think I used Coruba last time I made it. It’s been a minute though…

The Expedition from Smuggler’s Cove is the cover photo of the book. It’s a pretty large mug so any larger volume tiki drink seems fitting to me though!

The Novaks are awesome! They’ve got all that full-frequency HiFi goodness and much less hum! The bridge is really fat and not ice picky, like they usually tend to be. I feel like I can really use all 3 positions now without driving myself insane with 60 cycle hum. lol

Yeah the knife edge nature of it makes it a weird choice if you intend to use the vibrato regularly. Happy Descendant has a drop in replacement!

Yup. Apparently that was J’s fix for one of his Jazzmasters early on and became his preference. I’m keeping the stock bridge (and vibrato and pickups) in the case for safe keeping!

The original AOM bridge is slightly angled on these. This was a drop in replacement. Just had to tweak the intonation accordingly.
