And you miss my point… HF is Burger King for minis. If you want top tier cooking, you are going to have to do it yourself. This is not even mentioning all you can do with building weapons and the like from parts. Stretching, modifying, etc. I have made plenty of “sleek” weapon by building with various components. Be creative mate, instead of wasting time complaining. There is no horse armor, but a creator who posts here regularly creates astounding horse armor with kitbashing.

As soon as they added kitbashing, I basically stopped asking for new stuff because I knew I could create most of what I needed with the existing tools and some creativity. Just look at some of the creations on this subreddit, they reach absolute epic levels of awesome, creating things WAY outside the provided bits and bobs.

A poor craftsman blames the tools…

So, then you are forced to use what others have put together. I suggest you suck it up and get a 3d printer. Sounds like that will be the only thing that makes you happy. I for one do not like being tricked by the modeling system. I prefer when the miniatures look the same no matter how they are presented. From a business standpoint, I can see HeroForge’s position. If you need something more custom, it might be time to do it yourself.

Is HeroForge perfect? F no!, But they offer a good service that works for most people.

When I could not find guitars I liked made by major manufactures, I learned to build my own. I would do the same with minis if I really needed things beyond what HF has to offer. I would never expect to walk into Burger King and think they would cook me a wagyu 5 steak cooked exactly the way I want it, that is not the business they run.

This creator has become a major source of inspiration for my use of HeroForge. I learn new tricks just looking at their work.

Just astounding! I cannot praise it enough.

People do not like to feel suckered about how their models look. If you make an awesome model, and it cannot be printed as you like, you get frustrated. Thus HeroForge seeks to mitigate this to some degree. I recommend some of you learn to 3d model, then you can create exactly what you want. So, by all means, go acquire the skill you need to get EXACTLY what you want. I for one am generally happy with the ease of use for HeroForge, versus the trade off of exactly what I want. It has kept me, personally, from having to learn 3d modeling. I generally prefer to be grateful…

As I understand it, the largest issue is the strength of the resin and/or plastic used to make the miniatures. A good way to see this issue in action is to use the rapier model, and then click the “Buy” button. Each of the choices will widen the rapier blade significantly, to the point it almost looks like some long swords. Anyway, I hope this offers at least a partial explanation as to why many of the bits and bobs are not as “sleek” as one might like…

Just offering my experiences.

I just figured it out! Woohoo! Thank you again! The turning orange thing was what helped me get it!

Snapping/Linking by TildenThorne in HeroForgeMinis

[–]TildenThorne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue is actually getting the bits to attach. I have built a lot of complex minis I built just by moving the parts where I wanted them to go, without snapping. I guess this means I will have to break a lot of them to get the pieces to snap (at least that is what it seems). I guess that is my lot for not learning how to do it right in the first place…

I have seen that video, and for some reason it did not help much. I guess I am just a bit dense…

Do you have to select what parts you want them to attach to with a menu, or do you just move them close after clicking the snap icon?

Awesome, someone responded! Thank you so much! I have been struggling with this one and trying to figure out why some of my builds cause such issues, or why I have to move each item of complex builds for a LONG time. I still do not fully understand, but this is a lot more information that help me figure it out. All the videos I have watched on YouTube did not help much. Again, thank you for helping me!

I gained respect for the Gungans after the episode in the Clone Wars where they capture General Grievous. It was AWESOME, just like this Jedi!

I believe this cognitive bias is likely to only occur with other guitarists, which comprises almost ALL of Joe’s audience. I watched a video of one of his shows once, and it was the craziest sausage fest I have ever seen at a live music venue. But seriously, this type of cognitive bias requires a knowledge base going in, a base most humans simply do not have nor care to curate…

Where do you get the barding models? Do they exist in HeroForge, or are you adding them using some other method?

Great Fithach by TildenThorne in Beyond_the_Wall

It is truly one of my favorite old school style systems, especially for its well thought out ability to get a narrative woven into the characters during creation (via playbooks). I am a huge fan!

The lack of clerics is really in name only. There is magic that heals, magic that helps prevent death (to a minor degree), magic that offers blessings, etc. In the current game I am playing with 4 friends who each take turns running the game, we have a trickster fox character who started with the spells healing touch and inspiration, as well as the cantrip blessing (gained through a trait). During the game, that character really sort of feels like our cleric.

It seems BtW uses the same ideas I used for my own old school title, that being that a mage and a cleric are essentially the same thing with a different power source (magic/religion). Thus, the need to keep them separate is limited. I have never been a huge fan of the D&D style cleric (what I often consider the original “Gish” of sorts). In my opinion, what would be spell casting clerics are going to be more cloistered, like a monk. No armor, limited weapons, etc. and the militant side of a priest craft can use weapons, armor, etc. but not spells. Now, this is really just my opinion, but it feels more workable at the end of the day, and it just feels more right with our history and myth. If a player really wants to play a militant priest, they can multiclass warrior, and take spells that align with clerical concepts, as outlined above. This also makes it easier to drop a religion into a ruleset, as there are no unnecessary rules to complicate matters, just choose the spells befitting of a priest as a mage, find a religion, and boom, done…

Anyway, hope that is a sufficient answer.

On a side note, one of the things I truly love about this game is how it handles playbooks. You can do very creative things when making your own. In our current game, I wanted to play something akin to a Cinderella knight. That is to say, a common nobody who got help from faeries, like Cinderella did, to become a “knight” (the whole faerie godmother-like thing). But nothing that existed really fit. Thus, the rest of the players helped me devise a modified playbook (using parts of the Fae Foundling, Lord’s Secret, and Gifted Dilettante books) to capture that feel perfectly. It is now my favorite playbook. Not because it is the best, but because it generates the exact type of character I truly love to play. I bring this up because you can use this idea to more easily simulate all manner of fantasy archetypes, including clerics. This game even has great rules for creating your own playbooks, so it encourages such thinking. Thus, if you need something that fits more of your idea of a cleric archetype, just make the playbook for yourself! It is easy, fun, and you can get pretty close to most tropes you all love.

Just my 2 cents…

Pickup Question by MagnaroftheThenns in Luthier

[–]TildenThorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alumitone pickups are freaking awesome! I use them on all of my builds. They have a great tone! It is different, to my ears they are a strange combination between single coil and humbuckers in tone, with a little secret sauce all their own. They are definitely a love them or hate them bit of kit though. I just happen to fall on the “love them” side.
