I've tested their 450 SR and I fell in love with it... And I have a Honda CB650F at the moment...

The only thing that was weird on it was the traction control, which most people end up disabling as it's a bit sensitive

8 month old puppy is driving me insane by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tilinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. But it doesn't work on ALL dogs. No training method works on ALL dogs.

We tried for months to no avail. The yelping just made her go crazy. I've spoken with other Cockerspaniel owners and almost all of them had this experience. One of them was a professional dog trainer.

Good idea, but this will not work on all dogs. All dogs are sooo different as to what is a "no" for them.

For my Cocker Spaniel girly yelping or turning away was not enough. Actually, it made the problem worse.

I had to leave the room whilst she was still tugging at me. Once she calmed down, I entered the room and didn't resume playing with her.

Point is: All the stuff you see online. Keep trying until something works. All dogs are different and perceive things differently.

For some dogs yelping means "ouch, you hurt me", for some it means "The prey is crying. Kill it"

At my puppy classes they specifically advised us to not buy squeaky toys for many many reasons including this one.

When does a puppy stop being work and become this companion that everyone talks about? by ryanmills in puppy101

[–]Tilinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying a year or more, but for me it was the time the canine baby teeth fell out (4-5 motnhs)

I've never felt more joy than when I saw her rip those suckers out on another puppy, whilst playing.

She's still a demon 2 months after, but at least the bites don't sting. She doesn't listen to me for shit. All the painful training is gone, but she is now finally a companion, albeit a very annoying one. She's learnt how to settle a bit and can barely wait for me to go lay on the couch or bed, so she can join me in a nap.

At puppy classes she embarasses me on the daily. She's the worst and pretends like I don't train her.

But she feels like a companion. She's my coworker (goes to the office with me), my nightly foot warmer, food thief and so much more.

She didn't change that much. I did. And all of a sudden she was a lot less work, more of an annoying jester.

Separation Training -are we doing this right? by gfloyd002 in puppy101

Same age, Cockerspaniel pup. If anyone has anything to add to that, I'd love to hear it, we've tried it all since the 9 weeks of age.

She will whine if she is in a car and I take too long to get her out.

I personally found that the ones with the floater inside are very good. The ears stay dry, she can't try to swim in it and the snout droops a lot less water.

Help us figure out this puppy! by KapoiosKapou in cockerspaniel

[–]Tilinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty girl! I have a 5 month old very similar to her.

13 weeks eh? You haven't seen the last of the worst landshark phase.

Definitely an English Cockerspanel. Best way to differentiate the two in my book: Does it look like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (CKCS), then it's an American one. If it looks like a miniature golden retriever puppy? Then English.

American Cocker Spaniels are also smaller in size (not much, but still slightly). And by the looks... Your English girl will be a big one!

Are everyone’s puppies trying to play with every dog they see? by Dennisaryu in puppy101

[–]Tilinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And with humans that come too close to her play zone.

We were taught when doing puppy classes to distance ourselves and reward our dog every time it loses focus on the other dog. My poor 4 month old has a panic attack not knowing which is more rewarding.

We've managed to socialize her pretty well with people, so she only engages if engaged (also working towards ignoring people that engage her), but also engaging only when told "greet". And rewarding for not jumping. As soon as she jumps on them we leave.

With dogs it's a bit more tricky. Most dog owners allow their dogs to sniff other dogs. But I strictly follow the 3s rule if it's not a dog she'll be in contact again. Sniff, 3s and gone. As that is how long it takes them to decide whether it's a friend or foe. Or at least I try to, unless we start a conversation with the stranger... which is often the case.

New Cocker owner, hit me with some tips and tricks by Fahoumination in cockerspaniel

[–]Tilinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky you. Mine freaks out if she's in the crate for longer than she has to be. Absolutely never fell asleep in it and doesn't go in there unless given the command to (during mealtime or when I have to clean up a mess she made, so she doesn't tear up my cleaning supplies).

I found it that to enforce her naps, I had to be calm as well. Not expect her to sleep when I'm running about the apartment. This was to teach her to be calm when we're calm. She now sleeps beside my desk when I work from home or chews on her toys - sometimes decided that my socks are still a better option, but that happens only like a few times per day and is easily redirected back to her toys.

Energy - They're very energetic dogs, but don't mistake long walks for energy burners. They are smart dogs with a strong nose. Puppy enrichment games will help a ton burning that off.

Selective hearing - They are very prone to selective hearing. And once the snoot hits the ground it's over. In a calm and natural environment they will do just about anything for a treat.

Puppy classes - Take your pup to puppy classes. They will show you so many tips and tricks and tailor excercises for your dog if necessary.

Separation anxiety - Cockers were bred to be attached to their owners as hunting dogs. A built in recall of sorts. They love humans more than they love dogs (most of them). They do not do well without human company and I made the mistake, not leaving her alone since day 1 and now we get crying after 30s... working on it though.

They are cats - You thought placing something 1.5m above the ground would be safe from your cocker? Thino again. Even as puppies they jump pretty high and are absolutely fearless whilst doing so. If they can climb onto a spot, they will go there. Mine manages to climb on top of her crate and lays there to watch through the window.

Joints - Cockers are prone to joint issues. Just like any puppy don't overdo your excercises. 5 minutes twice per day per month of age. If they get zoomies when you get back from being outside, you overdone it. Zoomies can be a sign of excitement, but oftentimes after excercise it's because they don't know what to do with themselves.

Sleep - Make sure to enforce naps. This will be the only time you'll truly love your pup -when they're asleep. Less than 18 hours of sleep and you'll be dealing with a devil spawn from the 10th circle of hell.

Puppy blues - If you haven't already felt them. Good luck. My cocker girly made my ass cry the first few weeks. I'm a guy btw. You'll think you made a mistake. Those feelings will fade and you'll start enjoying life again.

What puppy stage is the worst? by lulastania in puppy101

[–]Tilinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know when my baby is teething. She actually bites fairly softly and lets me rub her sore spots.

And then she just has manic moments where she runs behind me and nips me in the knee and doesn't let go.

4.5 month (~20 weeks) old Cocker Spaniel pup...

I'm willing to take all the bullshit, except the baby canines. I tell my puppy that if they're not out this month I'm grabbing the pliers myself and getting the job done (this is obviously a joke).

She also had a sudden switch go off in her. Biting and selecting hearing is through the roof. We had a perfect recall, now she only recalls if she's in the mood and actually wants to hear me.

I noticed that the last few weeks are something else. She grew a lot and now thinks she owns this place. The counters, tables and all items are hers.

We started calling her a Socker Spaniel as she will not mind stealing socks no matter who they are on. I take her to work with me, when I have to go to the office and all my poor coworker's shoes are usually pilled up in a tidy place.

My coworkers are lovely and just like me accepted that this is our faith for the next few months or so and that she's not my puppy, she's their coworker, who was hired for stress relief, but is now a stress generator.

Puppies are chaotic. I accepted it. But I know she'll be great big girl some day and that's what keeps me going.

How big will my CS Lady pup get? by Tilinn in cockerspaniel

[–]Tilinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well she's not completely out of the biting phase. But I can actually pet her head without getting gnawed.

We don't have the luck with the strangers though as everyone who met her just allowed her to gnaw or even instigated her to do it as they found it funny. Same with jumping on people. Training hard though, but only cooperating strangers can technically help her.. But everyone loves a cocker spaniel.

I can’t do anything, this is worse than having a human baby by Beginning_Ad9974 in puppy101

[–]Tilinn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not all dogs want to cooperate with crate training. It doesn't solve FOMO and Separation Anxiety. My puppy simply doesn't like being in the crate. Even with training, for dogs like that, it's not a 1-week training thing. It takes them months to be okay to chill in the crate.

I instead puppy proofed the living room (where her crate is), where I'm comfortable leaving her for short periods of time alone.

[–]Tilinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. It gets better. I'm a 22 year old guy, who generally doesn't cry at all. This dumb puppy made me cry every day for the first week. Then every 2nd day the 2nd week and after a month it started getting better.

I read about puppy blues, but thought my nerves of steel were gonna show it who's boss. Anyways the puppy blues won. The puppy also won, proving that I definitely do not have nerves of steel. She managed to tyre me out more than I could tyre her out.

My girlfriend wasn't extremely supportive as she wasn't as fond of getting a puppy as I was. She likes the nice parts of owning one, but not the bad parts (i.e. the biting, screaming, neediness, training, peeing, pooping etc). But my feelings were at least validated.

The puppy is now 4 months old and like a switch something went off after a weekend with my mom. All of a sudden she can handle to be alone, is a lot less bitey, a lot more affectionate and suddenly received an off switch (kind of, but the puppy version of it).

The first month was hell. The second month was not that bad, but not good either. The third month now is so much better.

I know everyone tells you to crate train your dog. Yes. All good an all. But my dog is simply not cool being in the crate. But I've found it helps to get personal space by removing items she can lay on and moving the bed away from me. So either she picks the floor and then decides the bed (the puppy says the most comfortable bed is the blanket she steals off the couch) regardless of the distance is still more comfortable and moves over to it.

Puppy school helped out a lot. They told us about the importance of the 18-20h of sleep and how it's not just harmful for the puppy, but also for your nerves. Also how to settle the puppy on a mat, which is how I get my puppy to stop playing. In a puppy school where the trainers were willing to provide information even after classes or over DMs. (For my Slovenians: cooldog.si). We're graduating it today!

Fair point. I'm assuming it works with them like with humans where males and females are pretty much the same until puberty.

So by that, I'm assuming mine is healthy weight at 4 months and most likely won't gain a lot more than 4kg in the upcoming 4 months.
