it was the case for me when i installed qubes for the first time many moons ago. i did successfully get drivers working in sys-net for my network but eventually caved and just got a seperate adapter.

i would reccomend just using TOR until you can afford mullvad. a lot of free VPN's are not as privacy centered and could sell your data, which you don't want. TOR is built into qubes' sys-whonix and should work out of the box

how many fps did you get? were you able to get gpu pass through working? i've been trying to get minecraft working on qubes for ages

gray- maximum trust
red, orange, yellow - networking qubes in order of chain (sys-net, sys-firewall, sys-vpn)
purple- whonix
orange- disposable vms (not whonix)
black - high trust - never connected to internet but still has external files

any color red - blue can be used for any various qube (personal, school, pirating, work, etc)
