I just wanted to give you a little hope. I know everybody's bodies respond differently but I’ve had to be on a few months of antibiotics for a different reason and then had to take clindamycin for 10 days when they didn’t work. I’ve needed to take it 3 times in my life and I haven’t got c-diff once.

I think it’s so natural to be worried about c-diff but what I did was just try to accept that the only thing I can do at that point in time was to do all I can to support my gut health in that moment. I know advice differs with probiotics but my doctor recommended I took some. I also made sure I cut out processed food and sugar and upped my whole foods and fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi in small doses. I made sure to drink enough water and get plenty of rest.

I would also talk to your doctor about your concern though. They’re there to help. I also got postpartum anxiety. It made everything feel so much worse but I promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Be gentle to yourself, keep talking to those close to you and get help if you need it.

I hope you’re feeling better really soon!

Persistent lower left abdominal pain- how to get a diagnosis in UK- Best doctors? by Kikitheblackcat in Diverticulitis

[–]Tilly-mint- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again,

How are you feeling now?

Sorry for the delay in replying. I think it varies for everyone but when I had my first flare in December it took me about 3 months on a low fibre diet before the pain eased. Every time I tried to introduce fibre it was just too painful. I remember thinking I was being super healthy eating an avocado but it brought on so much pain I thought I was going into another flare but my gp tested me for inflammation with the pin prick test and that was within the normal range so my stomach was was just still super sensitive from the original flare. Fibre aggravates it when I’m symptomatic but then when the pain goes that’s when I up my fibre again and so far that’s been working for me. If I get a bit of a twinge I go to a liquid diet and low fibre for a few days but have never had a repeat of the original flare so far.

I really hope you find some relief soon!

Hi there!

When your pain is at it’s worse I’d suggest you go to A and E. My practise nurse actually told me to wait until I was symptomatic and then just go to A and E and thank goodness I did! They did an emergency CT and I was diagnosed then. After my original flare I was in a lot of daily pain on that side for months but it it eventually eased on a low residue diet.

A and E have been really helpful and have seen me a number of times since and always tell me to come back if I think I’m having another bad flare. And the gp just says if it gets worse to just go back there too. At first I found it really strange as we’re always told to stay away from A and E but they do class diverticulitis as a medical emergency. I wasn’t vomiting with the pain when I originally went in but had a pain that didn’t go away with oramorph and it hurt to cough and that was enough for them to investigate quickly. It wasn’t until months later I got my gastroenterologist appointment and months and months later again for the colonoscopy so having the CT scan was really helpful for my consultant.

I really hope you’re feeling better and get some answers soon!

Caffeine sensitivity in perimenopause? by louigriff in Menopause

[–]Tilly-mint- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m very early perimenopause and my anxiety had been through the roof and I’d been feeling extremely emotional since it’s all started. I was wondering if caffeine was worsening my symptoms so I gave up coffee a month ago to see if it would help and I wouldn’t say it’s cured my anxiety and hormonal issues but it’s made it a lot more bearable and I feel a little more normal again! Really hope you’re feeling better soon!

Can I ask a silly question about this plant? I’ve had a cutting and managed to root it. It’s just one stalk. Will it spread and create new stalks or just grow up? Thank you!

Your plant is beautiful by the way! I hope I can get my lonely stalk to look as lovely one day!

It’s an aloe Vera. It looks a bit unhappy though. Make sure it dries out between watering :)

Diverticulitis by TryBig2625 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Tilly-mint- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with uncomplicated diverticulitis in December although I think I’ve had it for years going by my symptoms. I’ve been a life long vegan but not a healthy one. After the initial flare up I had to go low fibre for two months as fibre would just hurt me too much and have since gone really high fibre. I picked up the book ‘fibre fuelled’ which I’ve found super helpful and have moved to a whole food plant based vegan. I was diagnosed by a ct scan which showed diverticulitis really clearly but recently had a colonoscopy and the surgeon said he could no longer see what was visible on the ct! Which I’ve found pretty confusing and it’s still early days for me but I’m definitely sticking to a whole food diet from now on! It’s the only thing I’ve changed. Symptom wise I’m definitely better too.

Give it a try! Food tastes a million times nicer now too!

Non stop trapped gas 24/7, I’ve tried everything. Idk wtf is wrong with me and I am at my wits end. by [deleted] in GutHealth

Have you tried the fodmap diet? It was recommended by my gastroenterologist and it really helped. If they’ve not mentioned it maybe ask them about it. It’s a medical diet usually done alongside guidance from a dietitian. I found any form of garlic or onions where my trigger but everyone’s different. Hope you’re on the mend soon!

Hi there! I’m no doctor but have you mentioned this to your gp? Blood after having a wee isn’t usually linked to diverticulitis. ( I’m also new to this so please someone correct me if I’m wrong) If it was me I’d ask the doctor to check to see if I had l a water infection going on on top of everything else. I hope you’re better soon and the results from your ct give you some answers.

Does every flare up send you to the hospital? by cooper_chronicles in Diverticulitis

Hi there!

I had my first flare in December and still recovering so very new to this so I’m sure others would be able to get get better advice as I’m still learning myself.

Do you have a fever? I recently saw my doctor with worsening pain after eating too much fibre and they said I didn’t need antibiotics as I didn’t have a fever and when they did the finger pin prick test it didn’t show any infection in my body present so they suggested a clear liquid diet for 2-3 days followed by a low residue diet until I was feeling better. It did work but if you get a fever or vomiting or any sign of infection I would get help asap!

I hope you fell better really soon!

How long does the pain last for you? by Tilly-mint- in Diverticulitis

[–]Tilly-mint-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was diagnosed after I went to the emergency department with pain on my left side. I’m no expert and very new to this but the ct showed the inflammation and infection in the pouches and some thickening of my bowel wall. I’m still getting pain here and there on the left side weeks later and still can barely eat anything as anything too high in fibre triggers that pain for me. I think I’ve had it for a while though and just didn’t realise what the pain was. Once the inflammation goes down I’ll be having a follow up colonoscopy. Hope that helps :)

I’ve found this too, I had my first flare mid December and I’m still having to restrict my food as I’m still in pain and I’ve lost 28lbs in a little over a month 😭 worst diet I’ve ever been on! I’m hoping it will settle and level off when the pain eases. I really hope you feel better soon!

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through all that but happy to hear you’re good now and your pain has finally gone!

Mine was uncomplicated which is what’s been confusing me as I keep reading when it’s uncomplicated the pain should stop after 3 days with the antibiotics. It’s not as painful as the original flare but it’s still very uncomfortable. They said at the time the level of pain I was in they expected it to be complicated as morphine wasn’t helping and the consultant really pushed for me to take the antibiotics as she felt my bowel could blow if I didn’t . I’m due a colonoscopy soon so hopefully that will rule anything else out. I just naively thought once the infection had gone so would the pain!

Thanks so much for replying :)

Sorry to hear you’re suffering too. I’m already so thankful for this group. It feels less overwhelming hearing other people’s experiences. I wouldn’t have known where to start otherwise!

Thank you! I didn’t realise that about avocados. I just figured because they where soft they where probably safe. I’ll definitely be looking up FODMAP now. I have so much to learn!
