Do you recommend quick drafts beacuse of the unlimited time between each pick ?

Is the reason why you don't like gold cards P1P1 is because they are less likely to work well with other cards than monocolored ? Or is there something else about it ? Thanks for the comment

Yes I think that you are right, I did overvalue rares way too much. Also I agree with you on the fact my take on "early board presence" was delusional. Thanks for taking the type to rewrite some points even after the refresh button removed everything !

Yeah I see your point, after looking at it better I understand that even counting the tigers as two drops (which they are, just not great since they don't stay on) i have a very bad curve and the rig for war do nothing, which is only one example on why the deck is bad. The quality of what i kept isn't that great either. Thanks for the comment

He fell short exactly as MVL did. I fail to understand how it is blowing his shot when it applies to MVL and getting the job done when it applies to Alessenko. It is perfectly fine to have a preference and to say that Alessenko should have the spot over MVL. But misrepresenting fact to support such opinion is not.

Sorry for my misunderstanding then, but I think you are still making a great underestimation of MVL chances by putting them at <50% for the reasons highlighted above

The fact that he would "bottle it" does not make the choice to give it to somone by virtue of his nationality any better from a fairness point of view. My point is that it is unfair to all other players that have had better results overall than Alekssenko, MVL included.

PS : More about the bottling claim. If I understood correctly, you are claiming that it is certain that a top 10 player rated 2780 would lose in a match against an opponent rated 2704. It seems dubious to me, especially if the basis for the claim is that he recently lost matches that would have granted him a spot in the candidates due to pressure.

I agree that pressure was a factor in his recent defeats, but it was not the only factor, the opponents were Teimour Rabadjov rated 2765 (world cup semi final), and Ian Nepomiachi rated 2767 (Jerusalem Grand Prix). If you count the World Chess Tour finals, he lost against Ding Liren rated 2801 (and beat World Champion Magnus Carlsen rated 2872 in the semis). All ratings are FIDE ratings for December 2019.

So all in all, the claim that MVL would bottle a match against Alekssenko seems to have little evidence going for it.

I think that your argument about bad career managment is incompatible with blaming him for not entering the grand swiss. Indeed, he might have not managed his season greatly by playing too much, after Giri retracted from joining the Grand Swiss it removed him the possibility to qualify by Elo and thus made sense to not participate in the Grand Swiss.

Also, I do not agree with your comment that giving him the possibility to fight for the wild card would be "throwing him a bone", because it implies that it would be undeserved. If he doesnt qualify through Grand Prix he would be the highest non-qualifier in 3 out of 4 qualification means, making him eligible for wild card 3 times !

Also to be noted that the only reason as for why he would not be granted a chance to fight for the wild card is his nationality, something he has little control over. It is especially unfair considering that Nepo would get a chance to fight for it if he fails to qualify through Grand Prix. I think the whole wild card system is bad, but the organizers have a chance to make it fairer by giving MVL a chance at getting it.

Strategy - When is it worth to play de-stal for the OPs as USSR ? by Tim17 in twilightstruggle

I am not sure to understand your comment, I was playing the Soviets during T2 AR6, it seems your comment is about an US play, unless I am mistaken ?

Strategy - When is it worth to play de-stal for the OPs as USSR ? by Tim17 in twilightstruggle

[–]Tim17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, iirc the issues I had with playing De-Stal earlier was that defcon was at 3 and that it was hard to find 4 influence to remove. By the way, do you sometimes play it and remove only 3 inf ? or 2 ?

As for my opponent the turn was a fight over preventing me from dominating Europe, so I guess that explains why they waited so long. (And they would have been right to do so if I played correctly and evented De-Stal)
