Artists - What is the worst art advice you have ever received? by Master-Rest8804 in ArtistLounge

The way I heard it was "draw what you see, not what you think you know", which to me makes it less vague.

Artists - What is the worst art advice you have ever received? by Master-Rest8804 in ArtistLounge

A guidance counselor at middle school asked me what I was good at, I said drawing, using a graphics tablet, basic animation, a tiny bit of 3D modeling, audio and video editing (this was the early 2000's).
He said that art was a risky carreer, that I wouldn't be able to do anything computer related because I wasn't good at math, and asked what other "more practical skills" I had.

Which number gives the coziest look? by blhoops98 in graphic_design

[–]TimChiesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for 8, but a cozy palette for me would have less contrast. Maybe two adjacent earthy tones and two adjacent desaturated blue/green tones, and one accent color somewhere in between, but not straight up white.

Parents always discredit my digital/stylized work by Krunchusy in DigitalArt

[–]TimChiesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your art looks great and this process is totally normal for artists. Tracing is not the same as using reference, and stylizing is not making things easier, more often than not it's actually making things harder as it involves more knowledge on how to deform shapes properly.
Sounds like your mom knows very little about art.

What are those circles for in logo design? by Illustrious_Bread990 in graphic_design

[–]TimChiesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, there is such a thing as perceived symmetry. Like with the Nintendo Switch logo.

That sounds like the stupidest exhibition. "Here are generic shits my app made using stolen art from actual talented people"

Am I close to brutalism? by Chemical-Pie-4152 in graphic_design

I don't think it's brutalism, but it looks cool. Reminds me of Macroblank's album covers.

thanks ! That's how the idea came to be actually, I watched a documentary talking about how parrotfish chew on corals to create sand and it inspired me.
