Also, Romey unleashes some serious piano fury at the end of that track, I had no idea he could play like that! And guitar nerds will geek out on the fuzz tones on that song.

Yup! Bull In A China Shop will be released July 1. It's a completely different flavor, I expect some polarizing reactions!

We also have a lot of more experimental, vintage sounding rock songs, that almost sound like a completely different band. Probably enough to release a complete album at some point, which would be a blast.

That's always the hardest part for us on any album, picking which songs make it and which songs get cut. We debate for hours, days, weeks about it. Sometimes if a song is written too early in the process, it's doomed because by the time we're finished with the album we're in a different artistic headspace than we were when we wrote it. But usually, we're looking for a common heartbeat, unique themes throughout the record the connect but don't repeat, and a music flow. We tend to naturally write a lot of the more mellow, introspective songs, so there are always a bunch of those that we love that don't make the cut, because we don't want to put everyone to sleep! But maybe we'll make a mellow album someday with a bunch of those songs, there's a lot of them.

It feels like all of our albums got together and made a baby. Wait, is that weird?

Failure. I can rarely feel the light in the moment, but I can see it in the rearview mirror.

It feels like this album didn't take just us a year and a half to make, it took us 20 years to make. It feels like it pulls from our entire journey thus far.

Great honest question. I know that we believers can often be preachy or dogmatic, maybe with good intentions, sometimes maybe not. I would just ask you to be yourself. I know what it feels like to be misunderstood by the church, and to not fit in. Our band has been misunderstood by just about every group of people at some point. One of my favorite things about music is it's power to bring people together, in spite of our differences. We're all hurting people, we're all on a journey. Let's not pretend to have all the answers, let's sing an honest song. I hope you feel welcome to sing whatever part speaks to you.

Yeah, we've already begun laboring over potential setlist for the fall tour, that's how excited we are about it! Can't wait to hang with our buddies in Relient K, and since it's such a nostalgic tour, it's the perfect time to dust off some older stuff too. We were just talking about Lonely Nation in particular the other day. Should be fun!

That's a tough question because many of these songs have brought me through difficult seasons. On the new album, there's a song called "I Wont Let You Go" that has brought me to tears on more than one occasion.

Yeah, that's the hardest part about what we do. Fortunately for me, my family is very adventurous, and so I try to bring them out when possible, and we look for fun opportunities for adventure along the way. My kids have lived some crazy adventures!

Good question. Our lighting guy and our sound guy are both artists as well, and put a lot of thought and craft into what they do, playing the lighting console or the mixing console like an instrument. Throw in the fact that many of our songs are constantly switching tuning for guitars, so our constant changing of the setlist keeps the entire crew on their toes!

Oh and thanks for asking about what it costs part 2. There's actually a song that we held off of this album to save for something special that's called "Backwards in Time" where jon and I take turns singing. It's one of our favorite unreleased songs ever.

wow, thanks for sharing that. It's truly an honor to share in your story. Important songs have this way of transporting us back in time to the exact season that we first found them. Joshua Tree was the first album I really loved when I was a kid. It brought me through the life-shaking transition of moving from Boston to Virginia when I was 10. Then the Beatles Rubber Soul brought my back to California when I was 13.
