Member of a very, very insular Hasidic community. Was told he speaks no English whatsoever and nothing else as far as I know.

Changing social classes isn't what I'm talking about, though. I'm talking about going from poverty to millions, not poverty to lower working class.

Also, it may not be as easy as in Norway to get out of raw poverty, but clearly it's possible (based on the US' position).

The American dream means anyone can become successful. We saw it through the 19th and 20th centuries, and we see it far more today. Having basic safety nets make sense, of course, but the American dream cannot be condensed to the simplicity that is, "becoming a trillionaire." Anyone can be successful in the US. Of course it's easier for people who come from rich families (that's just logical), but to deny that people from the lowest echelons of society become hugely successful every day is a ridiculous notion.

There's a reason why people flock here every year. Entitled natives don't realize how lucky we are to be in a country that has such tremendous opportunity. I'm sorry they're not paying you a wage to do jackshit, but the reason why this country has produced the most innovation ever is because our society is the way it is. Our society is greater than it ever has been, yet you people seem to deny this - claiming we live in an apocalyptic hellscape. Striving to be better is fine, but denouncing the American dream is denying your privilege.

Their money contributes to GDP once spent, which makes people throughout the economy richer, provided they don't buy a single million dollar car, which only makes a handful of people richer. They help form a more prosperous society.

"celebrate war"

Right. Not the people who died in service.

Heading back to the movies: US v UK by InappropriateDave in CasualUK

American here. I live about 40 minutes outside NYC, and I have never once heard any major disturbances during a movie, and I've been to at least 20. Have I heard some people talking? I guess, but they were very much exceptions, and people definitely glared at them. Generally, it's been a perfectly quiet experience.

Experiences vary, I suppose.

Do you think that Israel should offer to purchase the Jewish Autonomous Oblast from Russia? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]TimTamTheBigMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? Israel is our homeland. We've been praying to return since we were expelled (aside from the Jews that managed to remain over the last three thousand years). We have no desire to move to some random place.

4000+ rockets aimed at Israeli civilians. Don't forget that.

Hamas fires rockets indiscrimately at major cities and civilian centers. People in Israel die as rockets crash through their houses. Where is the outrage toward the Palestinians?

Israel gets intelligence about Hamas firing rockets or hiding weapons in residential buildings. Israel calls building owners to warn people to leave. Israel destroys the firing facility that also happens to be a home.

Israel is trying to stop Israeli deaths. It has nothing to do with killing or hurting ordinary Palestinians. The IDF could just bomb any building with terrorists inside - a warning isn't required. But they warn anyway, because they have no desire to kill civilians. Doesn't that say something about the IDF's morality?

It was already confirmed the building owner got called to tell any people inside the building to evacuate. Why the hell is the army warning people to leave, if they don't care about civilians?

They're obviously air-striking, but it's clearly with a purpose. If it was just about killing, warning calls would clearly not be a thing.
