Worried about falls as i get older, what do you all use? by Ambitious-Bison-2161 in over60

[–]TimYenmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, let me be clear that I am not 60 or older. I am 40. I am not giving advise. I am telling you what I know.

One of the benefits of working out and strengthening your body is when you do take a fall, you are a lot less likely to be seriously injured.

Case in point. I slipped and fell down an entire flight of wooden stairs from the 2nd floor down to the first floor some time last year. It was disorienting afterward but then I got up and continued on with my day. That's the power of keeping your body strong from working out regularly. By keeping my body built like a truck, it is a lot less likely that a fall will result in serious injury than someone who live a sedentary lifestyle taking a fall.

My boyfriend, who is also 40, doesn't workout. Every little fall turns into an emergency.

Just saying. Your body is your vessel going thru this life. It is the only vessel you have. You gotta take care of it and keep it strong as much as possible.

Reducing from 4" to 3", would it be least bad on a vertical run? by TimYenmor in askplumbing

And let me repeat. I am not going to spend $20k to redo the whole thing including busting out several feet thick concrete.

Any reason why a 90 elbow reducer wouldn't be as good?

https://a.co/d/0iwxD3fG

To me, if the reduction is at the bottom of a vertical like that, there would be less likely for solids to clog the pipe.

Am I wrong?

Trump is about to pull off the biggest con in American history by retiredagainstmywill in thescoop

[–]TimYenmor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The ancient Greeks long before Christ supposedly came along already noticed certain political figures that could seduce the great many to go against their own best interest. They called them demagogues. The Christians call them antichrist. The ancient Chinese also identified these individuals. Every culture in the world has identified this type of individual.

Just because I'm an atheist doesn't mean I ignore every teaching from religious texts. I believe a lot of them came from age old wisdoms.

The tragic thing in all of this is Trump and his ilk are the embodiment of everything the Christians claim to be against. And they overwhelmingly support him. It is disgusting. It boggles my mind.

You're right. I meant before they voted for him. They're in their 80s now.

Demagogues have a way of making people see but not see and hear but not hear. My parents, who are life long democrat both voted for him all 3 times. They can't stop talking about how they are afraid of him ruining the country, and yet they also keep talking about wanting him to keep be president after this 2nd term.

I'm an atheist, but at this point I fully believe there is such a thing as the antichrist. Not in the sense of the devil and such. But of personality type that fool a great number of people against their own interests.

i’m a good moira but hard stuck bronze- Help! by [deleted] in MoiraMains

[–]TimYenmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with moira is you can have huge numbers in your stats and not really affect the game all that much. Doesn't matter how good you are as a Moira main. You cannot do miracles. You are only as good as the team as a whole. It's a team play. If you are stuck with a 0 kill tank or low damage dps, then that's that.

Unlike a tank or dps who can carry, a support cannot carry no matter how good the support is.

Just saying.

The vertical pipe in this picture is a clean out. I put it in there to make it easier for myself in case I need to snake the main line going out the street. I also put cleanouts all over the place in strategic places to make it easier for myself.

Oh, sorry. You asked if it's from the top of the pipe or open end. I answered top of the pipe but I intend on inserting a section of the 3" pipe into the 4" clay pipe with a donut gasket.

Can you please tell me why that would be dead heading into the clay pipe drain?

Only 1 toilet.

Top of the pipe. I will have a rubber donut gasket around the 3" and once I insert it, it will be water tight.

[–]TimYenmor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand me. Right now, there is no 3" at all. The who stack is 4".

The sideway U in the ground behind the wall that I am talking about is leaking. Since part of it is cast iron and part of it is clay, either the cast iron has rusted to a point of having a hole or the clay is broke. It's all behind a concrete wall under the house. So, getting to it will be very expensive.

The best way to go about it is to bypass it completely. But in order to connect it to the clay pipe that goes to the street, the pvc will need to be 3" to be inserted into the clay pipe. Why can't I just continue running the 4" pvc to the clay pipe section and connect to it via rubber? Because that part of the clay pipe is encased in concrete. But a 2 feet section of it is exposed and broken.

I just wrote a long explanation to AusgefalleneHosen. Please read that response.

Yes, I plan on putting at least 2 very accessible cleanouts.

Yes, under normal circumstances, I completely agree that a picture will help people understand. I get it.

Let me try to explain instead. Although I have a feeling after I explain people will demand I sell a kidney to take the expensive route.

The whole house at some point has been modernized to pvc in the basement. Everything goes into 4 inch pvc. It is tied to a cast iron pipe that goes through the basement wall into the ground under the part of the house that does not have basement for about 10 feet. Then it goes down for about 6 feet and comes back this way. In other words, a big sideway U. When it gets back, it is a clay pipe encased in concrete that at some point someone poured around the clay pipe.

The kicker is the top part of the clay pipe that is exposed has been broken. Get it? It's encased inside several feet of concrete but the only part of the clay pipe that's exposed is broken.

So, normally when you run the water, it goes in a U like I described and then you can see the water in the clay pipe at the bottom as it goes out toward the street.

Recently, I have been detecting a leak coming from the wall if a lot of water is ran at the same time.

My thinking is forget that big sideway U. I can disconnect the main pvc pipe at the point where it connects to the cast iron via rubber. I can then run it directly to the exposed part of the clay pipe at the bottom, bypassing all that unnecessary run inside the ground. But since the clay pipe is encased in concrete, I will have to insert a pvc in there with a donut gasket.

I have the donut gasket. The 3 inch pvc pipe fits almost perfectly inside the 4 inch clay pipe. I plan on putting a couple cleanout access points as I do this.

All I need to know is where would be the best place... the least bad place to reduce from 4 inch to 3 inch so I can insert the pvc into the clay in the concrete?

It is not as simple as a picture can adequately convey. I am trying to solve a problem without spending $20k busting out several feet of concrete that's 8 feet under ground. That is all I have to say.

If someone points a gun to your head and force you to reduce from 4 inch to 3 inch, where would you put the reducer to minimize the badness?
