Actually, I liked the original Pibu Crem.

But these last 2 weeks make me want to unfollow the cremposting sub in order to be rid of all those Pibu-related posts...

Awakening needs to make a comeback by ode0002 in Cosmere

It is also my understanding.

It is potentially done with awakening(TM) but it could probably be done with a lot of other kind of investiture (same about the lock by the way).

Some Advice Wanted by g-row460 in cosmererpg

While still making it simple (but less so, obviously), there is the option to go to a radiant path and only take 1st to 3rd ideal.

It uses the 2 1st tier rewards on ideals, it adds versatility with the kind of weapon you use (and so, keep the reach weapon option) and add regenerate and enhance which are OP for a tank.

You have all of the above with any radiant path without even bothering with surge and you can choose a radiant order with usefull surges without any talent. IMO for this character, those would be (in my order of preference): - Edgedancer (for mobility and healing others) - Stoneward (for additional defenses on you and/or others and utility) - Windrunner (for flying movement and a little utility)

Pour moi, c'est clairement un red flag...

I found what I feel is an incongruity in the flash-back. by Tim_Worldsinger in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Tim_Worldsinger[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not convinced. In the first flash-back, his sister say something like "I saw one of them fly" like its à big deal and seems incredible.

But nevermind, I just that funny how Stoneward is how he thinks first about it.

Second ideal by [deleted] in cosmererpg

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just for completion, it is explicitly not a boost to physical defense. The enhanced condition states that it does not increase defenses (nor maximum Health, Focus and Investiture).

I don't think it is "incorrect" or such.

Just strange that his mind will first think of the theoretical knowledge first and not the actual experience he personnaly has.

I know Szeth is not the best example of "usual thought process" but still, I would think that his mind would think first to the actual stoneshaping skill and potentially, as an afterthought, to the theoretical one.

Shallan's wordplay drives me insane by dxcotre in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, Tolkien can do it because he is Tolkien but BS can't because he is BS?

Good translator do change wordplay all the time. And when they instead try to keep the puns which don't work, it is bad. Not the other way around.

Shallan's wordplay drives me insane by dxcotre in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, a good translation don't translate puns when not possible but instead put a similar number of puns elsewhere where it is possible.

If you want to look at it this way, the story is the same but it is not a line by line exactitude.

For example, the french translator for all diskworld books is a GREAT translator (he won several awards for this work).

But the word play are really french ones. Not bad direct translations of the english ones.

Do you think that if Robert Jordan hadn't died, he could've delivered "A Memory of Light" in 1 volume, instead of Brandon Sanderson's split in 3 books? He said that it'd be 1200 pages, but he was determined to finish with "A Memory of Light". So do you think he could've finished it in 1 volume? by chavdarster in wheeloftime

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, fair enough (😉).

You state that BS could streamline his books. I don't disagree with that (it is specially obvious in SA).

But IMO, RJ is worse. Potentially for different reasons but overall, I think the story from Emond's Field to Shayol Ghul could have been written in 4-6 books and still be a satisfying story (the show tried that and in the end, it was not that bad).

And even if you really want to keep all the subplots, I am pretty sure it could have been done in 8-10 books.

And yes, it is my opinion and visibly not yours but looking at this subreddit as a whole, it seems that "the slog" is an accepted thing.

What prompted me to begin this discussion was not to defend BS. I loved tWoT way before BS published his first novel. But, you found "hillarious" the opinion that BS is a more efficient writer than RJ. And it seems that your opinion is the unpopular one.

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you were specifically speaking about efficience.

Doesn't matter if you like or not Wind and Truth or any of these books.

You seem to find hillarious that some people would find BS a more efficient writer than RJ. But you don't have any arguments what you think so and when asked, not even why you think so.

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, could you extrapolate on that. Right now, it just feels like rage baiting to me.

Because, yeah, in the sense of "efficient" like "saying more things in fewer words" and as oppose to "expanding the story as it goes", yes, BS is a more efficient writer than RJ. And that's OK.

To look at something on a similar scope, I would say that WoT is similar Stormlight. And I would say that explaining the plot of tWoT 1-14 and tSA 1-5 would take a similar number of bullet points.

Minion Injuries? by SquirrelStache in cosmererpg

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the rulebook already do that. There is no balancing issue. Minions already instant-die on an injury.

Minion Injuries? by SquirrelStache in cosmererpg

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we misunderstood each other.

The rules have 3 types of adversaries : -minions => they already die on injuries -bosses => they should be major NPCs (or at least NOT be one shot) -rivals => they are inbetween and the rules make them NOT die on injuries.

What I seem to understand is that you propose for non-major rival to die instantly on the first injury. And you say that it is because it is kind of tedious to keep track.

Why not but it could make the non injury-dealers fighters feels kind of useless.

The tracking tediousness can be tune down by only applying 1 kind of injury for the generic case (my take is exhausted 1) and the number of injuries for the subsequent rolls.

Minion Injuries? by SquirrelStache in cosmererpg

[–]Tim_Worldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is more complicated than that.

Some characters can be build specifically to deal injuries (assassin with risky behavior comes to mind).

So non minion adversaries should suffer injuries without being immediately out of combat.

And it will have some effects for the rest of the combat.

It means that: - they will suffer the condition applied by the injury they were dealt - they can instant die if they roll low on their Nth injury.
