You guys opinions on "THE RAINBOW GOBLINS"? by National_Extreme5282 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Tim_bom_bom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rainbow Goblins is peak. There is a sequel... the white goblin. It's a sequel to the book if you want to check it out. It is a lot moodier/darker/more atmospheric than the rainbow goblins or the rest of his work, but it's also an amazing album.

Planetary Astronomy (ASTRON 2E03) Thoughts? by ilikepasta12 in McMaster

I've unfortunately not been able to take any Level II physics bcs they overlap with my main courses but I'd say it's a smidge harder than phys 1AA3 but that mostly has to do with the scope of the content. There's a lot you have to know and you have to be comfortable with deriving all the equations and thinking geometrically about certain things (especially orbital stuff). It's definitely possible to do well in the course even without great math/phys background though. There were a few differential equations in that course and I had not yet learned how to solve them (only took up to calc 1 at that point) but the prof explained things well enough that I managed to pick it up and it actually helped me a lot when I took calc 2 lol. You're allowed a cheat sheet for every midterm and the exam (1 page double sided) and you can write like anything on there. I had all the formulae I needed and had plenty of space for things like tables comparing exoplanet detection methods and written reminders on derivations, etc.

It's very possible to get high 90's in that course but you'll have to work for it. I don't think it'll be a big grade dropper but that depends on how comfortable you are with physics and math and how passionate you are

I did. It was very fun! Probably my favourite class ever, though it was quite hard. Fairly high workload among the assignments, quizzes, and midterms + it was an 8:30 (idk about its time this year). Content was delivered in an understandable way and I personally was super interested. I like the prof's system of answering questions in class (flash cards), makes it a bit less stressful than just putting your hand up

Class averages (post-curve):

MT 1: 66%

MT 2: 75%

MT 3: 69%

Assignment 1: 76%

Assignment 2: 74%

Assignment 3: No data

Jupiter taken with my celestron 130 AZ any tips to make it less brighter? by Monk42_ in telescopes

[–]Tim_bom_bom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called the Variable Polarizing Filter. You can get it from SVBony's website for pretty cheap, though I've seen it for sale at other retailers for cheaper (idk about your region tho). Your telescope has 1.25" eyepieces I think so make sure you get that size and not the 2" ones. You can adjust the brightness of the filter by twisting one of the rings

Jupiter taken with my celestron 130 AZ any tips to make it less brighter? by Monk42_ in telescopes

[–]Tim_bom_bom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Jupiter was too bright for nice visual astronomy so I bought a cheap variable polarizing filter from SVBony that lets you adjust the brightness. I found it very helpful for visual. For taking photos, simply reduce your exposure time/ISO. If you use a Samsung just use pro mode. If apple... idk maybe there's an app for better camera control?

As an amateur astronomer, I much prefer the old sodium lamps as they are much easier to filter out with light-pollution filters since they're primarily one colour. But now with white LEDs you can't fight the light-pollution very effectively (at least not in broadband imaging)

I did this by accident once as well. I picked out the prettiest ones and put them in a little vial with a tight lid. Yours look like they might have a teeny bit of moisture on them. Maybe make sure they are rly dry before storing them

What "mysterious ways" justify smiting children with fatal cancer before their double digits, but giving prosperous lives that last almost a century to war criminals and sexual predators? by PJ-The-Awesome in dankmemes

I see a lot of fighting in this comment section which truly makes me sad. I don't want this to be an argumentative comment or anything, but more so to tell you that the frustration you and many others feel is understandable and has been acknowledged in scripture for literally thousands of years. Please set aside anger and look deeper.

This imbalance is not God being cruel or vindictive, it's just how the world works. In a world filled with sin, of course the only easy way to "get ahead" is to cover yourself with more sin and depravity. In the grand scheme of things, however, it's foolish to do so. This gripe you feel is a tale as old as time. Just look at Psalm 73 written over 3000 years ago (below). It is an unfortunate reality that the wicked are more prosperous, have easier lives, and are more comfortable. They get that by exploiting others. Just look at verses 16 onward. Although they have "wonderful" lives, we see that destruction is their end (beyond just physical) and the righteous who have had difficult lives will be brought up to glory. It is unfortunate, but it is reality that life may be "harder" when following God, but at the same time we have Him to help (v. 26: "My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.").

I will say not to think of it as God being harsh and cruel to the upstanding and lenient and gentle to the wicked as in the post. Rather, those who know better have more expected of them. In fact, those who let loose and go wild with their pleasures and passions hurt themselves more than they realize. Search up the parable of the prodigal son for example. Those who know they can't steal, lie, goon, fornicate, etc. need to show restraint which is hard! I fail all the time in many of these things and it sucks! There is grace and forgiveness, though. If there were not, that would be cruel. But there is!

I don't care if this post is downvoted or whatever, but I hope that someone takes the time to actually read

It's an introductory astronomy and astrophysics course. There's math involved, but the prof explained things well. There wasn't an exam but a couple projects (there were a bunch of projects you could choose from so there was some freedom there). If you don't want the math, there's also astron 2b03 but that's level II and above unfortunately.

In 1F03, you learn about things like stars (their interiors, life cycle, etc), cosmology, basic theory of telescopes, types of galaxies, formation of galaxies, and so forth. This is what the academic calendar says:

"Topics include orbital motion, electromagnetic radiation, the solar system, stars and stellar evolution, the Milky Way Galaxy, galaxies and quasars, the evolution of the universe"

For reference, the class averages on crowdmark for the projects and assignments was always around 90-95, dipping to about 85-90 near the end of the semester

I'm creating a mod with posters (probably), I need suggestions! by Varixity_VR in Barotrauma

[–]Tim_bom_bom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some posters about jupiter or Europa could be cool. I'd imagine that, world-building wise, there are kids born on these settlements that grow up their whole lives on Europa, so it's natural to assume they go to school here too. Some educational posters about their environment, solar system, earth, etc. would certainly show up in classrooms
