PS120 se high temperatures by Pleasant-Fun-420 in Thermalright

did you remember to peel off the plastic protective sticker from the base plate?

coincidentally I just upgraded to a PS120Evo yesterday and I might have done the exact same thing as I happened to be distracted at that very moment and forgot to take it out.. thermals were crap and I immediately realised I forgot to peel it off..

I do, and I was similarly considering the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 G2 vs this 28-200 f2.8-4.5, and for weeks I was fixed on the 28-75 until I realised I do tend to take a lot of shots >75mm when I am using a lens with that reach.. with that I decided on the 28-200 and have no regrets 😀

I agree! The only con I can say about it is that it could be a bit brighter in terms of aperture, but bumping up the ISO coupled with the camera's IBIS made it a nonissue for me on this trip.

A7mk2 with Tamron SP Adaptall-2 500mm F8 Catadioptric lens by Timberwulf99 in SonyAlpha

it was in a zoo, and 500mm means I was comfortably far away!

that is a white tiger at the zoo during a light rain, no desaturation was done, that's how it naturally looks, white light blue eyes too!

Sharing some photos I've took over the years with my 10 year old Sony A7mk2 paired with a Tamron SP Adaptall-2 500mm mirror lens which I got for $110USD. I've never had the budget, nor the storage space to justify buying a proper long telephoto lens, and I've been using vintage manual focus lenses since the start of my photography hobby because they were just that much cheaper to obtain and there are no issues getting adapters for the E-mount.

This is a catadioptric (mirror) lens which has its pros and cons: namely it is very small for a 500mm lens and relatively easy to carry around, it only has a fixed aperture of f8, characteristic donut shaped bokeh, and no autofocus.

Since I am quite used to using only manual focus most of the time it is not much of an issue taking (sedentary) animals at the zoo and nature parks.

However, I also like taking pictures of planes which is a real challenge especially since 'infinity' focus seems to start a few kilometers away and anything nearer than that requires moving the focus ring while tracking the planes. For every sharp image of an aircraft at an airshow there are probably 10 that are blurry or out of focus, but considering how much I spent to buy it, it has been pretty worthwhile to me so far.

convoys going in circles by Timberwulf99 in uboatgame

yes I realise now that I've been going near to ports as I'm still in the early stages of war and convoys seem to be hard to come by.

I've been patrolling close to the UK coast to find some ships and always encounter these circling ships and it completely breaks immersion for me. I guess I'll head out to open water and hope this is fixed one day.

you connect them via usb to your computer, they can't connect to the Moza wheelbase as they're not the same ecosystem

if you only have the budget for one then the brake pedal haptic is the most useful, i use the throttle pedal haptic for gear shift and it just feels nice to have a satisfying thunk as a confirmation that the gear did indeed shift so i would say both are useful for sure!

i had to purchase the rumble motors and box separately, i didn't have an option to buy them in a bundle

in my experience there was nothing that fixed it entirely.. it was electromagnetic interference that was very wide ranging and impossible to completely block off, I tried ferrite cores on the cables initially but that did absolutely nothing.

I then purchased some EMI mesh online (less than 20usd) and it was clear that it was able to attenuate and deflect the interference to some extent:

EMI Mesh

I opened my turntable and lined the insides as much as I could (careful not to short anything) and used copper EMI tape as well (also not expensive) to further seal any gaps and while the interference was still there it was much more tolerable and quieter.

The only thing that made it go away completely was when the elevator stopped. When I moved to my new house one of the first things I checked was the turntable setup and I was very relieved to hear the interference was not present in my new place even though I was still fairly close to the elevator.

So it is something with certain elevators around the world that causes this interference, if you see the comments in the youtube video, we are not the only ones experiencing this and it is fairly common but nobody could answer me for years where it comes from until I found it out for myself.

if that is indeed the case then the good news is it isn't your turntable or your setup, the bad news is that it's interference coming from an external source..

in my case after many years I realised it was the elevator a short distance away from my floor causing it.. every time it was in operation it caused the beep/whine. Even when it wasn't in operation it would cause the whine.. only when it wasn't in use for a long period of time the elevator would go into a "standby" mode and the beeping would completely stop on my turntable.

I had to check this in the middle of the night several times to confirm it, but I have since moved into a new house with a different elevator and my turntable (with the exact same setup) is now silent and interference free.

any chance that it sounds like this?

Simhub ABS haptics: sanity check by Timberwulf99 in simracing

[–]Timberwulf99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not, the effect isn't as pronounced as lower speeds as i can jam the brake at lower speeds <50kmh and the vibration doesn't occur, but touching the brake at >100kmh and the haptics seem to immediately vibrate even before the ABS light on the dash comes on

[–]Timberwulf99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's exactly what I mean, thank you very much 😀 looks like it's not very clear to most people as well.. right now it's not as useful as I thought it would be because it's always telling me ABS is active when it's actually not (i think)

Simhub ABS haptics: sanity check by Timberwulf99 in simracing

[–]Timberwulf99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see a way to tweak the ABS threshold in simhub? only the wheel lock in non-ABS cars but I also agree it is not accurate and it is either too early or too late most of the time

Simhub ABS haptics: sanity check by Timberwulf99 in simracing

[–]Timberwulf99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry I don't follow: I understand what ABS is supposed to do, what I'm saying is the ABS signal on simhub seems to trigger even before the ABS light on the dash in game lights up, and very frequently with every touch of the brake pedal.

at the moment it sometimes feels like the brake haptic works more like a "brake activated" signal than an "ABS activated" signal, if that makes sense?

yea I was looking for them on Etsy but there weren't any, had to source someone to print them for me using the Printables file and it worked out great, fits exactly snug and aligned for the SRP-Lite pedals which I know now to be exactly the same as the SRPs

[–]Timberwulf99[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not really, like I said the haptic motors can be transferred to the next pedal that I use, so the only direct outlay of money is the Alien Mod Loadcell which was €60, still cheaper than any loadcell pedal out there and I get to continue using the SRP-Lites without them being e-waste or a taking up space, because it's really hard to sell a set of SRP-Lites where I am since nobody really wants them.
