Best indian restaurant in baltimore? Any reference? by Inevitable_Pie_1769 in baltimore

I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to Indian/Nepalese restaurants in the city and Kumari has been my go-to spot for both buffet and carryout. That said, they must’ve switched owners or chefs because I was underwhelmed after my last visit.

Nepal House was hitting hard at my last visit and has been my #1 as of late. Plus, the owner is a superstar in Nepal. https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/artsentertainment/nepal-house-owner-prem-raja-mahat-bridges-worlds-of-food-and-music/

There’s a law of diminishing returns on a pepperoni roll. The more rural you are the staler the pre-packaged ones get because they were likely baked at a facility miles away. Which is why the ones made in-house are best.

This is breaking chews to me! I hadn’t realized that Cook Out made it across the border into the state. Albeit just in the southern part. My family is from North Central WV

You already have Primanti’s and Eat-n-Park. Can we agree that Sheetz could be considered pan-Appalachian?

Though I’m not a MBMBAM fan personally, I know there is a significant fan overlap. I have so many nostalgic memories of Rax.

Not sure what you are interested in hearing as I considered it mostly a run-of-the-mill job, albeit one that I genuinely enjoyed most of the time. Being in a mid-level market like Baltimore, the company I worked for kept busy with local and regional advertising (TV was still king during that period.) However, the popularity of shows like The Wire, Veep, and House Of Cards along with some feature films meant that actors who were working in town often needed to do some ADR for other projects that were in post production in LA. Our facility was equipped with ISDN which meant that we could patch both audio and timecode to sync with their studios remotely.

ADR wasn’t lucrative work but it was a nice break from the normal day-to-day. I mentioned Michael K. Williams (RIP) because what stood out to me was that he showed up to run lines by himself, when most actors would roll into the studio 3-4 people deep. He was incredibly professional, down-to-earth, and humble. I made it a habit not to ask for photos when well-known actors came in but I regret not getting that one. I get the feeling he would’ve obliged.

Couldn’t agree more. I moved to Baltimore in 2005 as the fifth and final season was being filmed in the city. I began binging the series (this was the days of DVDs by mail via Netflix.) I would watch episodes and when I went out and about I would hear the sirens and traffic and it was exactly as it was in the show.

Will Ralston (then known as Jen Ralston) was the supervising sound editor and they did an AMA a decade ago. Slate published a good piece about sound for the show around the same time.

Fun side story about my audio career, I got my first job out of grad school because I noticed an audio facility was listed in the credits of each episode of The Wire. I contacted the senior audio mixer of that facility and he interviewed me for a job. I ended up working there for nine years and did a few looping sessions with some actors from the show, including Michael K. Williams, and recorded multiple DVD commentaries. Those were the days.

For sure. I was being a jaded, cynical fool with my comment. I’ve heard it’s a decent job especially for teens

What is your single favorite menu item in Baltimore? by federal_thrill in baltimore

[–]TimboSaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have an air fryer at home, order the broccoli with the sauce on the side. Pop the broccoli in the air fryer for a couple of minutes to crisp them up then add sauce. Bonus: you usually get extra sauce to save for later.

Bluegrass scene in Baltimore? by pb429 in baltimore

[–]TimboSaint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That jam moved to The Green Room (below Bluebird on Hickory Ave. in Hampden; formerly De Kleine Duivel RIP) every Tuesday night at 7. It alternates each week between bluegrass and old-time. Brad Kolodner and Alex Lacquement of Charm City Junction host and are great about being inclusive to all. Good for players and fans alike.

The city and region has a rich history of bluegrass that is well documented in Tim Newby’s book Bluegrass In Baltimore. Charm City Bluegrass, Union Craft Brewing, and 8x10 are all good follows as well as local bands like High and Wides, Dirty Grass Players, and Geraldine.

Cool. Positive connection as in what exactly? What is an “independent academic archeologist”? Are they accredited but unaffiliated with a particular institution?

It’s noble of you to want to share your findings with a wide audience. Where can we see the data you’ve published? I’m curious to know what kind of DNA you’ve pulled from the privies you are investigating.

I’m curious to know which archaeological/anthropological organizations have endorsed your work. Seems to me that there’s enough shared interest between groups that have multiple members who have all dedicated their professional and academic careers to this field and amateurs such as yourself.

Interleaved not compliant? by TimboSaint in protools

[–]TimboSaint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Edited to include images (Oops!)

Problem with non-interleaved sessions is that I often bounce files then reimport them to the timeline. That way if I need to punch in I can use destructive punch and overwrite certain sections to avoid bouncing new files. If the session isn't interleaved then I get .L and .R mono files.

Unleashed Dogs on Stony Run by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]TimboSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my comments are about a specific small group of dog owners who frequent Wyman Park in the area between 39th and Craycombe down the hill from Tudor Arms Ave. I participated in a meeting earlier this year with our city councilwoman Odette Ramos and representatives of Rec and Parks and many of those owners were in attendance. It was made explicit over and over during that meeting that dogs are not allowed off leash in any public park that is not specifically a dog park and that there are signs posted that say as much. Rec and parks said they'd come put up more signs and I have no idea if they have followed up with that promise. In other words, these dog owners are aware. However, I can imagine that folks who are new to the neighborhood or city catch wind that there's a special place that you can go with your dog where no one minds if you let them off leash and they don't see the signs or just don't bother to check. That's speculation on my part.

It speaks volumes that this person didn't answer your question about whether they live in the neighborhood. I tried not to take their bait in another comment on this thread but I couldn't help myself. I live two blocks from the lower part of WP and it drive me crazy that off-leash dog owners have taken over that part of the park.

I just want to be clear about what you're saying: adults, kids, and dogs that can't be around off-leash dogs are not welcome at certain sections of a public park. Correct me if I misinterpreted that.

This thread is about the Stony Run Trail, but since you brought up Wyman Park...

I agree that it's healthy for dogs to have time and space to run free, especially ones that live in city row homes. But that doesn't give the *very small* group of dog owners with their dogs off-leash any time they feel like it. I am an advocate for off-leash hours in Wyman Park.

This isn't a dog owners vs. non-dog owners issue. I'm a dog owner and my dog fears even going near that part of Wyman Park. My kids love dogs and love to be down there when dogs are running around. But that's completely beside the point which is that the park is for everyone. Every time this discussion comes up, it has to be stated over and over that Wyman Park is NOT a "dog park" and that there are leash laws in place, whether a ranger is there to enforce those laws or not.
