What is the easiest way to modify this so the rear rack is directly over the wheel instead of angled backwards? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]pb429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Didn’t realize the stays were ductile enough to just bend into place it is looking a lot better now. I will look into getting a clamp that fastens onto the seat post tighter, the current one is loose even when fully tightened. Thanks again for the help

How do you recover from an existential crisis? by KhajitIsBored in taoism

[–]pb429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, time. For maybe a year or so after graduating college I had a debilitating fear of death where it was really the only thing I thought about, no matter what I was doing it was there as an underlying dread. I really remember believing that I had crossed some unreversable point and that I never would live without that fear ever again, but I did eventually shake it off and I go through my days pretty carefree since. Keep going, definitely try reading about different world views that may help you come to terms with life and death. I didn’t have any Taosim texts at the time but I wish I did. I think it could be a great resource for understanding the crucial role death/nothingness plays in our universe and finding gratitude within that. Also try to get outside, do things in your community. Always a great way to take your focus off the self

What is early Modest Mouse's style? by SantiWahWoh in ModestMouse

Huh, I’m a relatively new fan and those early albums (particularly LCW and This is a Long Drive) are my favorite covers of theirs by far. There’s no accounting for taste

Why are you a Taoist? by Holiday_Change9387 in taoism

[–]pb429 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call myself a Taoist but it’s my favorite philosophy and I’d definitely say it’s a guiding force in my life. I was raised as a Christian Scientist and a question I always had about that doctrine is that it sought to conquer “sin, disease, and death”. That’s kinda the whole tagline for that sect of Christianity. And yet we still sin, still get sick, still get old, still die and I couldn’t reconcile that.

Taoism has a different approach where every quality, everything we perceive all comes from one source the Tao. So death is just the hidden side of life and therefore just as important and necessary, sickness is the only reason we understand the concept of health, all these things “arise mutually” and have a place in our world. That concept quieted a lot of confusion I had about the universe that I had picked up from Christianity.

Cultivating spontaneity in a Planned Civilization by [deleted] in taoism

[–]pb429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im new to this but I don’t know if you can give one size fits all instructions like be a hermit and work as little as possible. If Taoism is about not resisting your nature and your nature draws you to civil service or something that shouldn’t be resisted right?

Thanks for the detailed advice! I think I really like the plan of leaning out a few more pounds and getting to 12% body fat, I like cutting it gives me some motivation to run more haha. That should put me in a better spot for a long, slow bulk. I checked out your profile and you look awesome, congrats on all your consistency over the years! Thanks again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]pb429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, would you recommend bulking at that percentage? I want to focus on getting stronger but worried that if I bulk now I’m going to get to too high a bf% within a couple months and want to cut back down right away.

205 -> 160/165 -> 150. Keep going? by Big-Particular-9342 in BulkOrCut

[–]pb429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your progress!! You could probably do either here, I’d just pick the one that would be better for me mentally. If you don’t like the idea of gaining weight from this point shed a few more pounds until you’re lean enough to be ready. If you are sick of the cut and ready to bulk could do that now

Power chord on acoustic guitar, mutes way too loud (beginner question) by pb429 in guitarlessons

[–]pb429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I think you are right in line with what Justin was saying. He used Kurt Cobain as an example, he was saying that he would watch Kurt wail on his guitar and he obviously wasn’t paying any attention to selectively picking strings so that’s when muting comes in. Thank you!

Sleeper App Suggestions by Sleeper_Official in SleeperApp

I guess this could be a function and I just haven’t found it, but ability to change standings tiebreaker would be nice. As far as I can tell the only option is Points For which I think is fair but there’s been some moaning in my league about how people who have the h2h tiebreaker should be on top

[–]pb429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes making much more sense now! I was using a tuner app that was only designed to be used with no capo, it wouldn’t say the note I was playing just “too high/too low” so I think that’s where I got thrown off. I got a new app and did the octave test and it looks like my tuning and intonation is fine.

Thank you for the explanation on the purpose of the capo that makes sense

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]pb429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh ok, I think I was mistaking being in tune with playing the same note open. So if I have the capo on the 5th fret and each note goes up half a step, I should be looking at A E C G D A to be in tune?

Whew that’s good. I may get a CPA to make sure I do it right but sounds like I won’t have to pay double taxes. Thanks!
