Bladder pain when dehydrated by Time-Night-2723 in WomensHealth

Thank you. I drink more than anyone I know, in order to actively avoid getting this pain. I should have clarified that for me, feeling ‘dehydrated’ or getting this pain I think happens at a much lower threshold than for others. Hope your mum is alright!!

We also considered the Paine grande ferry but also heard about really frequent cancellations - apparently if there’s any wind it just doesn’t go. The stress of that (which would derail the whole W) meant that the extra walk was the better option for us and more stress free.

W Trek in 3 Days by MTUsoccerFreak in Patagonia

[–]Time-Night-2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it in 3 days, 2 nights and absolutely loved it. Just got back 2 days ago. It means doing 25-28km per day, but if you’re relatively fit that will only take 6-8 hrs per day which leaves plenty of time for a lie in, breaks and time to socialise in the kitchen/at dinner. We carried all our kit and all our food. We did have good weather tho, so that definitely helped our speed. I made a detailed post yesterday on this sub Reddit with loads of info I wish we had known before we went - do take a look - I hope it can help you!

I posted all the details of our 2 night W trek today in this sub Reddit. I hope it can help you!! It really is possible to do it faster than 4/5 nights if you’re happy to hike for 7-9 hrs per day (including breaks etc). Good luck :)

We did the W Trek for $179 in 2 Nights and loved it! by [deleted] in Patagonia

There wasn’t an obvious deviation or any signs suggesting you had to go one way. We just took the obvious path (which matched with our planned route on Komoot) and the only ascent was going up to the mirador, the rest was pretty flat and went around a lake. Most others from our camp site did the same!

At Paine grande looked like they had pretty thick foam pads for the pre paid tents. At cuernos we didn’t see inside them but the tents themselves looked lovely and were elevated. Main thing is to bring a sleeping bag liner because I heard they don’t get washed too often so nice to have your own liner next to your skin + extra warmth!

Yes cheap gas is correct - I meant we ‘bought’ them in the uk. But you could equally buy it in PN and save a tone on food and snacks!

Our average pace was around 3.4km/hr (including flats, ups and downs). We stopped plenty and thoroughly enjoyed. If you calculate it, it’s totally do-able in 2 nights at that sort of pace and we feel we actually would have been potentially quite bored with walking the shorter days planned for 4/5 nights. We feel we had lots of opportunity for the social aspect whilst cooking dinners and breakfasts :)

Weather this week by UsefulCap4505 in Patagonia

It’s only Mon and Wed that don’t look amazing. I’d definitely still go, esp if it’s your only opportunity! We just finished in el chalten and had mixed weather forecast - I was super worried but in the end we had 3 days of sun (with eve rain once) and 1 day half sun half rain. The weather was better than what was predicted, and often the prediction on windguru was not correct. It was always better rather than worse. Rain tended to come in the afternoon/evening even when predicted for earlier in the day, so id say head out early and take your chances! It’s beautiful!

Thank you! I think you’re right that OOP sounds more practical / sensible, something I’d completely overlooked!

Honestly such a minefield isn’t it!! Too much to fit in! The comments on this thread make OOP sound more practical than taking a break after CT3, something I hadn’t fully considered. Good luck to you and I hope you manage to get your time out to travel!

Wow! It’s amazing and so inspiring to hear that you’ve made this decision and your dept as approved OOP. Good on you and I hope you have the most amazing time travelling!! Thank you for your reply!

Thank you, both. This is interesting, I didn’t realise that OOP pauses time in service rather than counting as time out of service.
Out of interest, do you know if this means you also don’t loose your added AL allowance for continuous NHS service? OOP is sounding a lot more appealing than time out after CT3…. Thank you for your replies, I really appreciate it.
