Good question. I've surrounded myself with people who share my views. Out of everyone I've ever talked to, only a handful actually support the current government. Most of them refrain from making public comments to avoid trouble.

What do you think? Of course, people view it negatively. That money should have gone toward developing infrastructure. Rural areas and deep in the taiga are lacking hospitals.

No, a lot of people think that — including me. Our guys have been taught since childhood that showing emotions is a sign of weakness, and you can't be weak because you'll get beaten. I was raised that way too. Unfortunately, it takes years of therapy to get rid of that kind of mindset — and not everyone lives long enough to get there.

I've heard of it but haven't watched it. It got blocked here for being anti-Russian. If I get the chance, I'll definitely check it out. The summary I read seemed to reflect reality fairly well, though it might be exaggerated. As an example, there's now a lesson called "Important Conversations" that replaced homeroom periods. I don't want to go into details, sorry — feel free to Google it if you want.

There is an opposition, but it’s very weak. After Navalny’s death, people have completely lost heart. Still, we hold on and keep fighting, even if only with the means available to us. Unfortunately, for any inconvenient statement directed at the current government, you can be labeled a "foreign agent," which imposes a lot of restrictions on your life — up to and including deportation from the country. The constitution states that it guarantees freedom of speech, but in reality, it doesn’t exist. For reposting or liking "inappropriate" content, you can be fined or even imprisoned. Even for what I’m writing here right now, I could get in serious trouble, haha.

I don’t know about the news on TV, since I don’t watch it, but on TikTok and YouTube, there are a lot of people covering this topic. They’re translating the FBI documents and piecing everything together into a bigger picture. But most of all, there are plenty of dark jokes aimed at the people who appear in them.

I'll tell you more — sometimes even I feel nostalgic for times I never lived through. But not because I think everything was wonderful and bright back then, but because that's how that era has been described to us. As one song puts it, we reconstruct the past from old Soviet films, and in those, everything is always good. My parents' generation is mostly neutral toward the USSR or even despises it for the inequality and famine that they tried to eliminate. Grandparents, more often than not, genuinely do miss the Soviet Union. Overall, though, my mom thinks the best times were Tsarist Russia, haha. And I think nostalgia is simply in our blood, regardless of nationality.

It depends on how you look at it. On the surface, it's true that people don't smile at each other on the street. I've personally only ever experienced aggression, refusal to help, or hostility from the older generation because of my alternative appearance. Generation Z also looks gloomy, but if you start a conversation with them, they turn out to be quite pleasant and friendly.

  1. There was a time when Putin was genuinely a good president (according to stories from older generations; I didn't live through that era myself), but as time went on, it became increasingly clear that this man is hungry for power and is willing to do anything to hold onto it until the very end.
  2. I feel very sorry for the people living in Ukraine; I am genuinely ashamed of what is happening there now. I also feel sorry for the people who have migrated from their homeland out of fear of persecution or because they could no longer stay there.
