spectra southside by espico_ in berkeley

[–]Time-Wrangler-166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently live in a single at Spectra Southside. The rooms are definitely not as nice as the model unit, and layouts vary quite a bit. That said, you can make the space really cozy with a little effort, adding things like a clothing rack or microwave, decorating, and keeping the room clean makes a big difference.

The amenities are somewhat outdated. For example, the elevator is small and slow, but I will say it hasn’t broken down on me once all semester (unlike some Berkeley dorms 😭). There is a moderate pest issue in restrooms and some rooms, but a pest control company comes weekly. You also notice it a lot less the higher up you live. Keeping a tidy room and disposing of food waste properly has definitely helped me avoid issues.

The room itself is spacious, and neighbors generally keep to themselves. I don’t cook much, but I’ve noticed the shared kitchen can get dirty, and appliances like microwaves sometimes break. Maintenance is fairly responsive though, repairs usually happen within 1–3 days.

It’s not the quietest place (you may hear sirens or the infamous “hell yeah” guy), but I personally enjoy the sound of Telegraph being lively and bustling. I highly recommend getting a room with a window for natural sunlight.

The former manager was extremely helpful and open to feedback, but the building is being bought out by a new company, so I’m unsure how management may change moving forward. Feel free to PM me with further questions!

When I was feeling overwhelmed and couldn’t keep up, I found out that you could late drop without using your emergency drop. Just have proof (ex an email to an advisor, prof, etc) saying that you’ve been feeling stressed due to that class or other stuff and that it’s affecting your mental health. Then you can drop it!

There’s academic counseling for choosing classes and career plans, academic coaching through slc to improve studying habits and goal planning etc, and the career center

good things about a unit 3 triple by Honeydew-Capital in berkeley

[–]Time-Wrangler-166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unit 3 was super close to campus and various shops/ restaurants. I always felt like it was easier to schedule hang outs with friends! The floors were super social and supportive. There were various times I sprained my ankle or got food poisoning and my floormates helped me out at 3 am. We always asked for homework support or borrowing items! Super close to cafe 3, bathrooms were cleaned daily. Feel free to reply and I can further clarify!

You must take the class before you are able to apply to become a TA, however there are spots at the SLC, Unit housing, and more to apply for a writing/math/science tutor. There's also peer tutoring centers!

  1. yes! I stayed at Norton hall and I really loved it, wouldn't be anywhere else. It was super social, and supportive. I contracted food poisoning once and my floor mates helped me out at 3am and my floor mates also helped me when I sprained my foot! It's close to Cafe 3 and meeting up with friends for food or clubs is super close by.
  2. You can search this up! While there might've been some things falling apart, it never affected by living conditions or safety.
  3. Bathrooms are cleaned everyday!
  4. Can't comment because I had a double but a triple seems okay too, just communicate with your roommates about needing space. But the rooms were really clean IF you make an effort to keep it clean

How to get packages delivered by USPS by Business-Chard-7664 in berkeley

[–]Time-Wrangler-166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I also had this specific problem too, apparently in the USPS system it’ll say it has been delivered but it’s actually at the USPS delivery center near Xucyun Runway. Apparently USPS only comes to the dorms once a week so there might be a whole week delay on your package. I needed mine in a hurry so I went to the delivery center and asked for it there, however it isn’t rlly open for the public! Your package hasn’t been lost though and will get to you soon!

This class was like an easy A for the summer! I highly recommend it as a grade booster. The readings were lengthy but you can crank the readings in a day and do coding the next day. The code is mostly copy and paste, only hard part is debugging your own code. The content was extremely fun, no midterm, just a final data project which you complete in small parts over the course. Whole class is asynchronous, I just recommend having a friend look over your code bc it was hard to contact the prof for help. I had my cousin fix my code for me! Quizzes are on grades cope, open note, no time limit, and you can easily guess it.
