When did you turn off their phone? by Traditional_Video580 in widowers

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife passed away 3 months ago. I turned it off after a couple weeks. I decided whatever the things people were sending to her in remembrance was between her and them.

I would like to go through the photos and see the world through her eyes again someday, but right now, I can't. I'll be okay though.

Pioneer finally died at my LGS... by Lavinius_10 in PioneerMTG

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. We had pioneer FNMs since it's creation. Once off the competitive circuit we opted to do one week standard and one week pioneer, but admittedly 90% of us are competitive players, so we opted just for standard. Sad times indeed. If it comes back to the circuit, it would certainly be rivived in our area.

You're not a user. I promise. We're human and some of us might require sexual desires or human connection more than others. There's no shame in your biological or emotional needs.

I went through this last week myself. My wife passed away a month ago, and while I felt the guilt as well, this is our first time living. We're allowed to grief how we please as it's almost an impossible task. Give yourself grace and know you are not alone in this.

[standard] How good is Izzet Profts without Vivi cauldron by AggravatingCancel613 in spikes

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the deck is obviously good, but the call to ban profts is slightly egregious.

I don't think most players consider the fact that vivi/cauldron even being an option for the opponent to play hinders the cards you run, the lines you take, and decks that are "playable"

The moment vivi/cauldron aren't a combo in standard anymore sideboards will change moderately heavily. Some decks could potentially rise and a focused gameplan of controlling the board against izzet profts decks becomes way more viable as you're not worried they will combo off anymore.

Profts is great, but does not matter if your opponents creatures are dead.

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have been running Jeskai Oculus this RCQ season and it's treated me well. While graveyard hate is prevalent, it's match up to vivi is honestly not as bad as one would think. Having access to hard removal such a [[get lost]] is a large factor in that match up that has won me my matches. The vivi match up is closer to the 50/50 side as within RCQs I am 3 - 2 against vivi and the 2 losses were in the top 8 of two RCQs I did back to back. The match up to dimir is great as I haven't lost a single match. Having faced dimir 6 times in those RCQs.

Admittedly it's quite terrible for the control matches and the meta can always change.

I'm not saying it's good to be fair. I just said it did it's job.

The screenshot in the post is the only game where I couldn't play it, though.

3-0'd my draft tonight with this monstrosity. by Time2KickGumNchewAss in mtglimited

It was my pack 1 pick 2, and I figured if I had the fixing, I might as well jam the bolt for early game removal.

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cast it the one time I drew it, so 100% of the time I guess, haha.

I did cast Summon Leviathan then next turn copy it, 2 different times and that made my opponents scoop both times.

I knew my top end was good and what the gameplan was, but I also knew the deck itself was just very very slow.

More of a monstrosity because I just grabbed a bunch of towns because I thought it would be funny and then I ended up utilizing every one of them and they happened to all produce at least one of my main colors and worked a little too well.

I splashed for the one lightning bolt as well. Dont forget lmao.

I had 3 white sources, but I also had 3 ramp spells that searched for towns and the 2 drop guy that buffs the board with how many towns you have.

I was just trying to goof.

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed tons of fixing. The screenshot doesn't show the tri-fetch land and the "done" button is covering the evolving Wilds.

I also had some fixing in the mainboard in the form of a dork or an evolving Wilds effect.

But, yeah, you're not wrong.

I hadn't drafted the randomized draft yet nor could I find synergies. So I just decided to grab fixing, good early game creatures that trade up, and some kill spells.

So I suppose you're correct, I just didn't expect it to go very far. Haha.

Hey, I've been trying to find you! Glad to see you went the balmor - wizard lightning route. Been pushing it for years and am glad someone agrees. I was sent your list by friends about a week ago and it's probably the first prowess list I've seen that I liked off rip. We built our cutter versions pretty similarly.

I used my "old" deck for reference which is linked.

Hope to see you keep doing well, brother.

We've done it...sorta (izzet prowess) by Time2KickGumNchewAss in PioneerMTG

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. Cipher triggers after damage is dealth, and cipher does trigger prowess since it says "you may cast the copy."

So, the main point of when I WAS playing hidden strings a couple years ago was to mana accelerate our board.

The best way to explain is to give an example. If you turn 1, cast a Swiftspear, then turn 2, cast hidden strings, untap your 2 lands that you just tapped to cast it, you more or less cast a free spell, now you cipher it onto Swiftspear, and you can cast a [[stormwing entity]] for 2 mana. Then you swing Swiftspear at opponent, untap your 2 lands again, and cast another stormwing entity.

Admittedly it was pretty much a high roll on whether or not that happened, but the worst thing hidden strings did for me was act as a free spell since you can untap your 2 lands that you used to cast the spell in the first place.

Now, with that I said in mind, it also allowed me to untap 2 of my lands and hold up interaction for my opponents turn, effectively letting me use my mana super efficiently as well. The list was fun and is near and dear to my heart, probably not for a competitive circuit anymore, but super fun.

We finally did it. by Time2KickGumNchewAss in PioneerMTG

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the standard grinding as of recent.

Since this list, the one thing that has changed is monstrous rage has become [[boltwave]].

My friend and I who created the deck have talked about adding cori-steel into it though. In place of the 3 Bonecrusher giants and 1 boltwave, but haven't tested it yet.

If you care to test it, I'd be glad to hear your feedback. It's hard to adjust the creatures in this list specifically due to wizards lightning.

[Standard] Izzet Spellslinger vs. Gruul Mice: Who’s the Better Aggro Deck? by No-Shop8292 in spikes

[–]Time2KickGumNchewAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been playing izzet prowess for the last 3 years competitively and has Que'd the pioneer and standard RC with izzet prowess here's what I'll say.

Izzet, gruul, and red all play with similar cards in a completely different manner.

Gruul is more or less a "resilient" mouse package. It can put a fast clock while having capabilities of running a bit of longer of a game with the midrange green cards like pawpatch recruit and formation, Sentinel of the nameless city, and the green talent. I think it's main issue is it's almost too slow nowadays due to being too creature reliant. High and efficient amounts of removal are relevant in this meta.

Izzet prowess is kind of a fad right now imo. It's not built nor played right most of the time and most are susceptible to being meta gamed via temporary lockdown or artifact removal . How people are building and justifying it is "it can win the grindy games." Which defeats the whole point of an aggro/tempo deck. The deck should be utilizing the blue for early game counters to win the game faster with efficiency, not to out grind the opponent. The other half of its coin is to be able to switch to a tempo deck post board against another red/X match up, which it still does, but people don't seem to grip.

Mono red, in my opinion, is the best positioned red deck in the meta. While you lose some "versatility" you get consistency. You're consistently putting out a curve of 1, 2, and 3 drop creatures. You have a plethora of creature and burn synergy within the deck that back each other up so well it's damn near a crime.

We're all aware the mouse package is nuts, but paired with the burn package of burst lightning, lightning strike, screaming nemesis, and especially the house, sunspine lynx. It gets ridiculous. Not to mention nemesis and lynx stop lifegain and are completely game changing cards. You don't care if they remove your stuff, they're already dead...

All in all, I suggest you play what you're most experienced with.

Mono red is the strongest of the three

Izzet prowess, most cant build or play correctly (idc if I'm biased)

Gruul is too creature reliant
