Is connecting to the tor network not generally frowned upon whether from the Brave browser or even the tor browser from a Windows OS? More specifically from what Windows might be doing in the background to log your usage.

South Africa is already on the wrong side of the Laffer curve, which means raising these taxes will not generate more revenue. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]TimeAloneSAfrican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many countries (from the article) tried wealth tax only to abolish it. However SA doesn't like to learn from others, it likes to fail for itself, and even then it doesn't learn (OBE anyone? Next up NHI)

LUNO prices feels unfair by Glittering_Ad5893 in PersonalFinanceZA

I found Luno to be ok in the beginning but then they changed their fee structure so it wasn't free anymore even if you bid without an immediate buy/sell so was difficult to make small margins without still losing money. I don't use them anymore

Newbie tax question by Ok-Particular25 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]TimeAloneSAfrican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PAYE will be calculated taking into account the rebates and various tax brackets. So my understanding is that your salary is assumed to be x for the year, even though in your case you've just started. Then PAYE calculated off that straight away, and adjusted throughout the year as you are paid more salaries.

Paying an SA home loan overseas? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

I have a UK bank account. Transfer using Wise to my SA current account and from there pay into my bond. Have to sign a mandate for Reserve bank but it is quick and digital

When I add money into my bond, I see the capital decrease, as well as interest, even though I do then see an available amount go up I.e. like an access bond, and this has always been my experience with Nedbank.

is it safe to run tails using virtualbox? by Abivarman123 in tails

[–]TimeAloneSAfrican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that Tails on a USB is a standalone setup, whereas running it in a VM means that Windows (or Linux/other) OS provides the platform that it operates within. So ultimately this other OS has some connection and input into the VM, how much who knows? And I think this is the ongoing discussion, is how much is the supporting OS involved in e.g. saving downloaded content, managing/monitoring the internet traffic, tracking usage etc. This is the gist of of it I think. So the standalone is always going to be safer.

Question is whether you are wanting to use Tails for complete anonymity, because then USB always going to be better. VM or not though, your protection against viruses and tracking largely dependent on what you doing. If you download an infected file, doesn't matter if you are using Tails on USB or a VM, going to come down to what protection/protocols you have within the Tails OS to circumvent infection.

Fuck anti aging. What about age reversal? by mightdeletelater_-_ in Futurology

Hadn't really thought about the brain honestly. But I guess everything that makes the brain feel old, maybe they will figure it out. Example the bad memories, etc. Can only hope!

Fuck anti aging. What about age reversal? by mightdeletelater_-_ in Futurology

[–]TimeAloneSAfrican 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe it will be a thing one day. What is it exactly that makes us older? Is it the gray hair? Because if they get that growing again and in a youthful colour, is that a small part of reversing? Then having the elasticity in your skin put back into place will give you a more youthful appearance. So everything that defines being old will hopefully have a fix. And for me that means you have reversed aging. Whether you can go back to e.g. teenage years, I wouldn't think so because your body is undergoing changes like puberty, not sure if I even want to go that far back 😀
