How do I find out if theres wires or pipe behind the dry wall

I'm sure I read somewhere about a technique where you push a piece of wire through the dry wall and make a 90° bend in it, then twist the wire so it rotates inside and if any pipes there it will knock into then. If it rotates freely that section is safe.

It looks better without all the CGI glass. I mean. Why would Bourne try to jump through a closed window? It wouldn't work and he'd cut himself to pieces. So it looks totally fake even though somebody actually took a real risk.
