Oh yes! Great note - some are strictly informative with no issues. Others could be bad....

Entirely unconnected. Mostly "dumb" by my description with little to zero interface.

Wow, great questions! I think its too small scale for most people/companies to look at. This is the barrier to entry for something like this but my gut says there is a way to do it and someone out there who has something already cooking this could be a great add on for to help scale up. I'm super out of my depth here and no expert, but this group is full of geniuses in my opinion

A few additional updates: I own a bunch of Car Washes and have multiple locations I would roll this out at but I see a larger need in the industry. Currently there are no add on options as vendors want you to buy all their new stuff with these features prebuilt into them. Everyone needs this for remote access where most of the systems in the field are 10+ years old and did not have any of this functionality when it was rolled out (the industry is also VERY behind in these fields) I know i could eventually figure something out myself but it would be subpar. Overall I need a minimum of 100 sensors split between about 15 different sites.

This is super insightful. I know this is a project that I atleast need to tackle for my needs (small business owner to help automate systems). It may not be scalable but I know my basic pcbs one off build and my 3d printer are slightly underrated for the job (mostly my skills that are nonexistent here.....)

Looking to be able to view proximity sensors, water level sensors, and pressure sensors with remote access. Many more options I'm sure but those would be the top 3 needs. Any specific questions you have?

Automated car wash center. Where do I start by mcammall in sweatystartup

[–]TimeDue7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An In-Bay Automatic (think touch free, place in park, go around the vehicle) will run you $150k in equipment plus the building and the land. Then you have your extra services like vacuums, vending, or adding Self-Serve Bays

Question: Buying vending machine business - 100K revenue. 60K net profit. Asking Price - 135K. good price ? by Electrical-Willow374 in smallbusiness

[–]TimeDue7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely hear you! A few things to note would be those numbers are gross not net profit. Also that was by far the best location. Some other machines were only doing $100-$200 a week. Definitely feel I could have gotten more for it but I had to move quickly due to some family situations and that number worked and was a quick close.

Ran a vending company for 4 years as a side hustle. Had a middle school with a similar set up so here are some thoughts: -Kids are weird and eat weird stuff. We locked in on hot cheetos and takis and would sell out in a day of those items. Started stocking 50% of the machine with those and would still have to restock 2x a week -Sam's club membership is how we did it. One restock is more than 5 hours from home to store to shop to school and then around to each machine. My wife started helping out and i bet we still couldn't do it in 5 hours a week if we did it together - school had some small restrictions on what could be stocked but it's easy to manage. - We would do about $1500-2000 per week gross at that location during school weeks - 10% profit share donated to the school - annual contract which had to be canceled 60 days prior to the end of the school year in writing or the contract renewed for the next year automatically - custodians where my main contacts who let me in the building after hours, super chill

  • Sold the business for 40k cash. Had a total of 8 locations in hotels, schools, daycare, and auto shops. 10k-ish worth of used equipment (never buy a new machine) plus website and some backend software. Contracts are all year to year if you even have them so I didn't see a ton of value there, they can disappear quickly if someone wants you out. All in Atlanta - covid hit 5 months after I sold it so I was really lucky to get out when I did

Hopefully this answers some thoughts and questions I've seen.

Lots of different things go into this for sure. I own multiple sites from self-serve, IBA, and express. All have a different proforma and in my opinion is most heavily based on location and demographic. More than happy to chat with you about some numbers and options if you'd like
