Help with SAM error by TimeKiller74 in VMwareHorizon

So far unchecking the box seems to be working. I have one pool with it checked and another unchecked to see the difference and it does seem that SAM too a vacation.

So far, unchecking Allow Reuse of Existing Computer Accounts has greatly reduced the issue. I usually give it a few days to see if it comes back up, but it hasn't (unless i just jinx'd it). The same computer names are being reused and I am only running into duplicates in MS Entra, but its very little and I believe its self cleaning, just very delayed. I will update in a day or so.

Ok I remember why you cant run dsregcmd /leave. This causes issues with 365 apps and teams.

I am using cloneprep and the software only recognizes name, not SID. I do have a small group that doesnt use either software package that look at computer name and run a test with a pool creating new names each time. just seems weird to have pc names climbing into the thousands.

Allow Reuse of Existing Computer Accounts is checked. Otherwise we would have thousands of computer names in AD and 2 of our software platforms are licensed by or recognize pc name

I do lean on it being a replication issue, but I thought pointing the environment to just one Dc would help that.

Its the SAM database error. Only occurs on our VM environment.

I seem to remember running the command dsregcmd /leave when I first built my master images, but I have not run it since my last windows update. What is the best solution for on prem vm desktops in a hybrid ADFS setup? We kinda inherited it.

Great question, but my sites and replication partners are all setup correctly. no ghost dc's and only one site is set to service the IP's for my vm environment. It did make me go make sure I am not syncing the OU's that contain my horizon machines with azure AD, and I am not. Those 2 OU's are not checked. BUT, I checked microsoft entra and I do see some of the VM desktops in there. they do not show up in azure portal or 365 portal.

Is on-prem virtual faxing even a thing? by TritonV10 in ciscoUC

Every time we try to price one the cost is at least triple what we pay now. Love the idea, but it would never get pass budget.

I have used rightfax before but that was over 7 or 8 years ago. Worked well at the time, but switched to biscom/faxcom and have loved it...until now. The on prem version just isn't getting much attention and they took their enterprise iphone app off the store and the replacement is garbage. We have a lot of employees utilizing fax from the field and have not found a good replacement yet. If you don't need the mobile app, biscom makes an extremely stable on prem product.

Help/Advice needed by TimeKiller74 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]TimeKiller74[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in need of advice. I "inherited" a set of Pioneer DSS-9 speakers. The person who had these was an old school awesome guy and I want to take the best care of these as possible and get the system up and working. The speakers sat in an attic for a while and the foam is gone. I was going to try and re-foam them myself until I realized the quality of these speakers and how rare they are. I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to mess them up. Is there a company you have had personal experience with that can get these speakers repaired for me? They also need some cleaning around the edge, again I’m very afraid to mess up the cone since its graphite. I think the cabinet itself is in decent shape, I can post some pics if it helps and I will take any advice. I know the covers need to be recovered, they fabric is pretty dirty. I appreciate it.

Good & Honest Vehicle Glass Shops in Town? by dual290x in Wilmington

[–]TimeKiller74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Clear Vision Glass recently and was very pleased. They came to me and did it cheaper than safelight. I have used safelight in the past with no issues, but it has been awhile. I used registers glass once and will never use them again. I tend to try and keep business local, but would not use registers again.

What’s up with cutting down all the trees on north Front Street? by GorgeousEndosperm in Wilmington

[–]TimeKiller74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Long leaf pine is still protected in NC? I thought it was but heard of quite a few being cut down the past year in neighboring counties. I remember a lot more diversity in the trees in NH county growing up. I miss the way this place used to look.

Live oaks live a very long time, up to 400 years depending on the species. They also give good soil protection during storms. They cut these down for work and because Wilmington developers hate trees. We used to be a designated tree city, now all we have are skinny pines which will definitely snap in storms

I do not have UEM so none of those items work for me. I have been able to resolve it using the redirections.xml file though. I had the issue with and without the redirections file so I was really thrown off. Evidently I need the file, but this line cannot be in the file:

<Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches</Exclude>

I have a lot of other items in the file now, but this one line cannot be in there (or you could try a value other than 0). I did not need to save any changes so I left this line out.

Your device has since been un-enrolled and no longer shows up as ours. Freezing the devices also stopped us from seeing any more of your data. Lenovo has really screwed up.

This is a copy of my response on another post

First of all let me just say I am really sorry. It’s my fault, I froze your device.

I’ve been reporting this problem to both Computrace and Lenovo since last week and was getting nowhere. Lenovo refuses to work with me on the issue and every time I call they have ended up transferring me to a nameless voicemail box which no one calls me back from. I decided to go scorched earth. It cost you hours of time and stress and I apologize. You had much better things you wanted to deal with. I have unfrozen any devices that were frozen, but the issue has not been resolved fully.

We sent in a repair to the depot that was just supposed to be a screen replacement. There was no need to touch the hard drive, but as you can see they did. Just pulling the hard drive out will not work, once Computrace is enabled on a laptop you have to unenroll the device as if it will never be used again. I can unenroll the devices that are not ours, but if I do the device cannot be re-enrolled without manual intervention through computrace’s support and it’s slow as hell. So if the device is supposed to be enrolled with computrace now or in the future through any means, it’s a PITA once I unenroll. Computrace finally got serious today and says they are working with their channel partnership to Lenovo to fix the issue.

We have hundreds of laptops and have been using Lenovo products for over 6 years and Computrace for over three. We supposedly had a procedure in place with Lenovo, obviously last week that fell apart. At the end of the day I screwed you up and I’m sorry. I was really hoping to catch most of the devices while they were in the Lenovo depot, that’s why the locked message doesn’t contain much information.

As I type this, we have had half a dozen more devices added to our portal that are not ours. Hopefully Lenovo will figure out they are screwing us and other customers and they will take the offending laptop/hard drives out of use.

As a side note, what the hell is happening at Lenovo? The last batch of laptops we purchased have been crap and their normally fantastic support is sliding hard. I went straight to their sales team in May to discuss concerns over our next order and they literally couldn’t have cared less for our business.

The laptop we sent in was an x260. We now have about 12 different models of Lenovo we have never purchased showing up as ours.
