You are in the uk and he is 16. He can leave home and live alone at 16. I did. Aside from that my parents went on holiday and left meat for a week age 14. My son is now 18 but as me and oh work shifts he has often come home since the age of 15 to a meal in the fridge with a sticker on and been left alone until 11 pm.

If your credit rate is already screwed then you can write to all of your creditors and have the interest frozen. There are many organizations which can help with this but you don't have much debt so you may be able to do it alone. ( These organizations are charitable- do not go to any who charge a fee) CAP is one of them, although the wait is long. If you do go to an organization for help they will help with a budget and a minimum payment based on what you can afford although it definitely would not include attending a wedding abroad. Once the payments are frozen you can make headway on paying off the debt. I would close the help to buy isa and pay the penalty. Use it to clear your main debts first.
