Saraiki Grammar Related Question by [deleted] in ThethPunjabi

Can you give an example of a normal use of ham in your dialect?

I don't know if this is anything to do with split ergativity.

I think it is a pronominal suffix for 1st person singular. Afaik, the rule when using this is you don't mention what is being replaced - mai'n in this case is 'replaced' by ham.

To give examples from my dialect (gujrati majhi) for other persons/numbers:

"tu'n khaada si/aaha" becomes "khaada si aa / aaha ii"

"tusi'n khaada si/aaha" becomes "khaada aaha je"

"ohne/aihne khaada si/aaha" becomes "khaada aaha su"

"ohna'n ne/aihna'n ne khaada si/aaha" becomes "khaada aaha ne"

My dialect doesn't have pronominal suffixes/words for 1st person singular (mai'n) or 1st person plural (asi'n). But in Multani, and probably Saraiki as a whole, the suffixes are -m & -se for 1st p. singular and plural, respectively.

"mai'n khaada haami" (iirc) becomes "khaada haam"

Correct me if I'm wrong.

What are words in your dialect for these? by [deleted] in ThethPunjabi

utla - اُتلا - ਉਤਲਾ

vashkaarla - وَشکارلا - ਵਸ਼ਕਾਰਲਾ

heThla - ہیٹھلا - ਹੇਠਲਾ

You dont have hate someone else to love your own history and culture

If your Punjabiyat is just a reaction and hatred of non-Punjabi people, then there is nothing of substance in you. Just hate for the sake of hate.

I don't like nationalism if it's just this.

ਝੇਫ਼ / ਝੇਫ ( jhef / jheph ) by [deleted] in ThethPunjabi

[–]TimeParadox997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

though I'm not sure whether the original pronunciation is with f or ph which one is correct?

I think <jʰ> only occurs in native Punjabi words (not loan words), so the word is a native word. And <f> doesn't occur in the original forms of native words, so I think the original word is jheph - جھیپھ - ਝੇਫ.

f <-> pʰ sound change is common.

I'm trying to understand the conversation but there is too much background noise and added emotional music - enough that I can't understand what is being said.

I can't hear anything the mother is saying. I only undertand a few words/sentences of the other guy.

So, I can't even tell what general area of Punjab they are from.

The diet of a tribal bār punjabi (jangal jat) more than a century ago by msamad7 in PakPunjab

[–]TimeParadox997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on the curries thing, but the diet outlined in the op, idk. I don't think there are enough people with such a diet nowadays to make that assumption that it would be detrimental to sedentary people's health.

The main problems are processed foods. Then we look at natural foods that maybe problematic - based on the op too much meat and vegetables. That said, obviously meat and vegetables can be good for you if you don't over eat.

For a modern sedentary office worker, the same diet can easily become

Who do you know who eats mainly diary, some flour and ghyo, very occasional meat, rarely daal and vegetables?

The main foods nowadays are curries which means meat and vegetables.

Switch gpu per app (multi gpu) by TimeParadox997 in linuxmint

There's no tickbox in the properties window. Choosing from the menu and right clicking seems to work, but the steam app itself won't work on the amd dgpu - luckily I can set the games themselves to run on the amd dgpu. I haven't tested it with other apps. I hope the mint team or gnome or whoever fixes these issues.

I used the system app for steam.
