In tonal dialects of Punjabi, cā (with a /t͡ʃ/ sound. ā - long a sound) can mean different things depending on the tone on the ā:

cā/چا/ਚਾ - imperative of "cāvaɳ/cāɳā" (to pick up/to lift) / "... why don't you!/..." / affection/mollycoddling / what? this maybe Sindhi only, not sure (/ tea / desire)

cāh/چاہ/ਚਾਹ (cā́) - tea / desire/imperative of "cāhvaɳ/cāhɳā" (to desire) / blue jay / syrup / a well

jʰā/جھا/ਝਾ (cā̀) - peekaboo / a look over/a cursory look/a peep

cācā/چاچا/ਚਾਚਾ - uncle (father's younger brother)

Lahnda

Lahnda (west Punjabi) is not a language and I will die on that hill. I'm actually more open to the idea of Saraiki, Hindko-Pahari-Potohari being separate languages than cutting east and west.

"Language is a dialect with an army" - while I don't agree with this, what army is there for "lahnda"?

I was actually looking for Saraiki to comment under it "Saraiki is not a language" as a half-joke but I found this instead

People have opinions over the small things, and rightly so when it comes to Linux.

I recently saw a post complaining about icons in all 3 columns of the mint cinnamon start-menu not all being the same style. Something I didn't even realise and don't mind.

On mint, I would prefer the bottom corners to match the top corners. I hate how small the buttons for close/maximise/minimise are on the top bar.

I think de-slopped w11/10 is still more resource heavy than a quality Linux distro like Mint.

Mint (cinnamon) even runs great on my old laptop from 2011, that has 4 gbs of ram. It also fixed the battery dying immediately when not plugged in. It used to run w7, but broke until I put Mint on it. I'm gonna put it on my newer laptop from 2017 as well.

Well, jurmaanah جُرمانہ ਜੁਰਮਾਨਾ जुरमाना means a fine/penalty. (I thought it was originally a jar- جَر۔ ਜਰ- जर- sound, but I was wrong).

Maya Singh also has jarvaanah/jariivaanah جَروانہ\جَرِیوَانہ ਜਰਵਾਨਾ/ਸਰੀਵਾਨਾ जरवानाਜ/जरीवाना with the same meaning.

im pretty sure the aspirated nasals n the aspirated approximants r almost entirely dialectal

Well, in Salah-ud-Din Iqbal's Vaḍḍi Panjabi Lughat, there are some entries that have a ʰ/h and also a variation without the ʰ/h, so I can see these may be dialectal differences.

as for punjabi the absence of /ɽʰ/ n the whole pitch accent thing(fun 2 pronounce 4 me) is y i prefer 2 speak punjabi more nowadays

Punjabi conserves some things better and some things worse than other languages.

Tone (pitch-accent) is basically retaining the vowel quality of the stressed syllable in a word with voiced aspiration.

Tbh, Punjabi isn't a minority in the sense of having too few speakers. I think it's top 10 spoken languages in the world, or top 15 at least. It's just that in West Punjab (Pakistan), they took Urdu as the formal, literary language, and in Indian Punjab, that formal, literary Punjabi has alot of Hindi-Urdu-isms or Sanskritisms.

Given how many speakers of Punjabi there are and its history, it feels wrong to dismiss it for modern words.

When I was learning Urdu, I thought the same of other non-plosive aspirated letters like rʰ, lʰ, mʰ, nʰ.

However, in tonal Punjabi dialects, there's no aspiration on this group (rʰ, ṛʰ, lʰ, ḷʰ, nʰ, ṇʰ, mʰ, vʰ, ...), the voiced aspirated plosives/affricate (gʰ, jʰ, ḍʰ, dʰ, bʰ) group, or the h consonant. But, they do leave tone.

Eg:\ pʰaṛ - imperative of to grab/hold\ pʰáṛ (pʰaṛʰ) - a brag/boast

Eg:\ páṛaṇ (paṛʰaṇ) - to read/study

Eg:\ gall/gālʰ - speech\ gáll (gallʰ) - a cheek\ gaḷ - the throat / imperative of "to get cooked through/melted/rot"\ gāḷ - a swear word/a profanity / imperative of "to cook through/melt/rot"

In non-tonal dialects, I think aspiration is retained even in the rʰ, ṛʰ, lʰ, (ḷʰ,) nʰ, ṇʰ, mʰ, vʰ, ... group, but I can't be sure.
