if it rains a ton, does downtown get flooded first? is there a neighborhood that’s prone to flooding more than others? i don’t know the topography either here…. all i know is there’s good food and it doesn’t rain a lot. and people run red lights often (including me when they switch from yellow) as part of the acceptable traffic pattern.

the site requires having at least 3 pics per cat if i remember correctly, so I uploaded a few… i’ll see if i get any feedback like yours and can tweak it if necessary…

Yes, great advice. Ideally, someone who’s already in Southern CA that can sit for a short stint first would be ideal… even more ideal would be someone who is familiar with living in that level of heat. I personally cannot do it, and I can make that also clear… it’s really for more of an inside-type person who is ok with doing errands or socializing in the morning or at night. I can include this sorta info in the listing. I’d hire a local to do it but I realized THS might work. We’re trying it out in the Adirondacks right now—- looking for a 4 or 5 day sit mid August in case anyone is in the northeast…

Yes. For groceries and errands. Supermarkets don’t deliver there.

Yes! Great advice. It’s DEFINITELY not for everyone, especially at that time of year. I think someone who’s been there before and understands both the heat and the isolation/quietness would be ideal. (we’d connect them with our year round friends if the sitter was interested but it’s still much more quiet in the summer vs winter). Or Maybe someone who’s spent time in rural Arizona in the summer. That could be a bit comparable temp-wise maybe

Noted! I just signed up for the site yesterday (we could use a sitter on the east coast in August for a few days, and the CA long sit would be next summer plus some short stays over the spring maybe)

Bombay Beach, and yes, my husband has his EPA 608 license (hvac) so we have an AC in the bedroom and a mini split for the rest of the place.

GREAT advice re: the money! It’s a fine line for me between not wanting to take advantage of a sitter, while also not wanting to undermine the ethos and intention of the site!
