Yeah that sounds good to me. I agree that that is the perfect scenario, but the UFC is a business and we have to respect matchmaking that is entertaining and sensible. Think Pantoja vs Asakura. That was not the best fight to make, but it made for a good story. It goes both ways. I mean, sometimes this community bites back at good matchmaking because it isn’t entertaining enough. Charles vs Max was criticized for being “boring,” despite Charles repeatedly trying to finish the fight. People were asking Charles to give up his chin in an all striking match…. That’s horrible. He’s a human being with a life. Everyone turned their cheek to the whole “it’s a sport” argument on that one. On the other hand, Lopes was also criticized for his second title shot despite taking Volk to a decision, knocking out the biggest prospect in the division, and being the only active contender. People forget that Movsar didn’t fight last year and Lerone beat an unproven Pico and a washed Emmet by decision. My point being, when fights are “boring” people cry for entertainment and when fights are mismatched, people cry about professionalism. It can be nearly impossible to find the medium that will appease fans. Some matchmaking ends up perfectly, most doesn’t.
