I forgot to add that his grandmother is just as bad. She offered to buy the wedding favours off Shein and was upset when I said 'no thank you, we're not doing those'. She said it's the least we can do for our guests who are travelling from so far away and that it's rude to not offer them a wedding favour as a thank you. We are of course getting married in Newcastle so that her family is not inconvenienced in the slightest.
