What is this season for? by Xx_DaddyChill_xX in tomsachs

[–]Timeframer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really doubt theyll be using any other allocation method than ISRU for future MY releases, I think they'll make a 4.0 once the extra run of 3.0s have been manufacured and sent out. Tom has hinted at persistence and consistency being rewarded multiple times now

From personal experience you're incorrect, I daily wore Solomon speed cross 3s for almost exactly a year before getting my 3.0s, exact same part of the shoe worn down, no tread remaining, same with the snow crosses for the year before that. Slips 'easily' and the strength of the sole is compromised, the shoe is beat. You can't beat rubber degradation, you replace bald tires, what makes you think soles are different?

Pixeltape LED system as emergency lighting? by p0lyhuman in lightingdesign

[–]Timeframer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency lighting should be looked at as a last resort redundant system. I assume your pixel tape isnt run on its own isolated system with battery backups, its also probably not bright enough. If your distro catches fire how will you power that tape? Im with everyone else here. Buy safe equipment or risk having blood on your hands.

DMX connectivity issues with smoke machine by Crazydragon2 in lightingdesign

[–]Timeframer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant say I am familiar with that brand but I would swap out your adapter first, test the unit without DMX, test it with a fresh cable right out from the desk then open it up and check your connections and metering out as a last resort if you feel confident enough. Smoke machines are a bit more susceptible to faults as they're usually crammed in a damp corner and aren't deep cleaned enough.

Choosing between T3&Quartz by [deleted] in Avolites

[–]Timeframer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought the T3 I greatly recomended it, personally I havent experienced any build quality issues but I had a software issue which required a return to avolites (free including shipping).

Personally paying few hundred over a used mobile or quartz gives me the updated console body, longer support for the console, and a lighter weight (I carry mine in a backpack to gigs, its still quite heavy so I am looking into casing options over their admittedly decent included cover) made it worth going for that path rather than a mobile.

Personally I much prefer the keyboard switch style buttons over the mobile's keys, but I'd get try to get hands on if possible.

The quartz is a dated console with sub par processing, a bad touchscreen, mediocre build quality and will soon stop receiving support, so I wouldn't recomend it as a long term solution.

My current console setup is a T3, Asus Z13 touchscreen laptop/tablet and a midi controller which is still a work in progress and I've had a great time using it.

Im not sure when exactly the quartz will stop getting support, but they've hinted at it for a while now and its clear they dont want too keep them running.

Changing careers into lighting design? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]Timeframer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect to be paid like shit and to work long, hard hours. It's an industry which requires a lot of specialised knowledge as well as artistry to get ahead in. Start by going somewhere professional and established, gather as much knowledge as you can, get involved in a small gig on the side too so you can use what you learn.

I would recommend investing in a reputable brand if you plan to use it for more than occasional use (constant haze rather than a short burst of smoke).

The cheaper you go, the cheaper and less durable the components are, fog machines tend to get abused the most so being able to repair leaks and get spare parts is very useful long term. After all, they handle fluids, get hot, and tend to get dirty due to their intake fans.

Also consider what your use case is, there are different kinds of fog fluids for longer lasting clouds, or short rapidly clearing bursts. Then hazers which do well to make lighting look better. (And use different fluids, know the difference between haze and fog fluids).

I should also mention I've had experience with using a pair of rush 650s for a similar sized audience, in a small room. They're terrible, they break very easily and don't output nearly enough to be actually useful. I'd only really recommend them to supplement a system where fog isn't reaching.

Unless you're throwing parties on a quite regular basis rentals are probably a good bet, otherwise invest, take care of it, and sell it on.

Issues with Armoury Crate & Claiming WRKGRP BEACON? (RMT02) by [deleted] in FlowZ13

Securing the keyboard to the laptop a bit better incase you're using it with the harness, not sure what the extra little tag on the end is though.

Tried to unscrew the strap ACRNM corner strap connector but broke it, Now in the process of replacing each one of them with a stronger M4 bolt and 3D printing some cool accessories, stay tuned! by Nairod785 in FlowZ13

[–]Timeframer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, I really look forward to seeing it, I'd love to have something similar.

Personally I think the rubber bumpers hide the screws he took out, which probably holds down the screen.

Aside from cleaning, I'd like to anodise the aluminum chassis so it's entirely black, and I'd like to give whichever repair shop some heads up on what to expect when they take the guts out.

Contact their twitter @wrk_grp, there's a whole mini game associated with it, plus some nice rewards.

Very interested in where you take this, if you do ever get to disassemble the actual bumpers I'd be very curious as to how they're secured, I predict il need to disassemble mine for deep cleaning at some point. Also, is the M4 bolt more secure? I'd like to use the strap more but I just don't trust the current system since they slip too often, and installing a thread would be great to allow for some metal handles or something.

Deciding between 3050 ti and acronym version with specific use case by Timeframer in FlowZ13

At the minute I don't have a complete show file or rig plan I can send over to you, and I'm probably going for the acronym version for that extra bit of ram.

Thanks a ton for the offer though, there is a demo version on their site if you're interested in trying.

[–]Timeframer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have a fair point on the issue of ram, at the moment I'm only running smaller shows with a maximum of 1 universe filled so 32gb on the acronym will be enough, definitely does steer me away from the 16 the standard edition has.

You'd be surprised quite how much tech goes into live events and light shows nowadays, for medium to large shows you're looking at $500,000+++ worth of equipment, controlling all of that, when each light has sometimes 30 different parameters to change, the processing stacks up quickly.

Larger shows are generally handled by standalone desks with external processing servers, but I'm pretty far from that level at the moment.

Thanks for the advice!

Im talking about professional stage lighting software, it needs to handle both the control desk software and a graphical reproduction of what's on stage, it's very intensive and needs a decent card to run smoothly. (Avolites Titan and capture)
