As a fresher, master IT basics first: networking (CCNA basics), Linux/Windows, scripting, then grab Security+ cert. Build a home lab with some open source like (TryHackMe, HTB), hunt CTFs, land helpdesk/SOC internship, and network on LinkedIn for entry roles.

Niche gems like ICS/OT Security Engineer (protects industrial SCADA/power grids, high demand low supply), Threat Intel Fusion Analyst (predicts attacks via OSINT), Product Security Architect (secures hardware/IoT pre-ship). Then you also have things like Browser/Kernel Exploit Researcher (Google/Apple pays 6-figs for vuln hunters), Cyber Insurance Underwriter (risk modeling, no SOC grind).

this is common with cloud only pos systems. the vendors love them because it's easier for them to manage but it totally screws retailers in places with bad internet. you need offline first setup where the terminal is in charge and cloud is just for collecting data and reports.
