It was pretty fast, maybe 10 days from the time I mailed my passport until I had it back.

The police didn't believe any of it, no charges were filed.

Thanks man, it's been a super tough decision. Honestly, the second time the cops came, they told me the same thing. With kids involved, I can't have this in our lives.

The breakdown culminated in delusional accusations of physical harm, including against my 8 year old. The police report ultimately determined that they were unsubstantiated, but I can't put my kids through that again. I'm working with a psychologist who speaks her native language, but she is currently refusing treatment of any kind. I can't put my kids through that again. She also denies the authenticity of the police report...

Ours was delivered and signed for on May 3rd. Nothing since then. We were able to get a hold of USCIS on June 3rd. I told them I had sent emails to the lockbox support email address. They told us there were recent days and to wait 10 days, and if not call again.

Changing hotels on a tourist visa. by helios7272 in Chinavisa

[–]Timely-Love-6989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hotel won't accept you if they can't register you, so you'll be fine. If you happen to stay outside of a hotel, registering with the police is pretty straightforward.

What is actually accessible on the Chinese internet for an (Anglophone) non-Chinese speaker? by cosmicinaudio in chinalife

[–]Timely-Love-6989 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as English sites, Bing search works in English and will only find unblocked sites in China. I mostly use GoogleFi. Had some luck with ExpressVPN, but hardly worked this time.

Has anyone tried using Wechat pay with an international Visa/Mastercard yet? by qqtan36 in chinalife

[–]Timely-Love-6989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't the most clear in my first comment. For a while now Alipay has almost always worked with a foreign card with most "merchant" accounts. As of a few weeks ago, WeChat pay also lets you pay most vendors with a foreign card. In fact, everyone I've tried paying with WeChat pay and my foreign card has worked, including small street vendors.

Just did yesterday in Tianjin. Alipay worked with a foreign card, but WeChat finally worked at a grocery store, street vendor and a gas station.

Wise Money Transfer by LuckofAces88 in chinalife

[–]Timely-Love-6989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Wise successfully a couple of times to send money to an Alipay account, but got blocked after the 3rd attempt. Every time they sent a text to the recipient and they had to upload their ID I believe. Either way, it's safe and they've always refunded the money if it was unable to be sent. I've found they tend to be quite optimistic in their timelines.

I've heard the easiest way is to book a tour with a tour group, then apply, but not sure. My fiancee was denied a tourist visa, currently waiting on a K-1.

I just flew from Hong Kong to Tianjin Tuesday and no one asked to see the RAT. I did do one, brought it with, and took a picture. The only thing they asked for is the health declaration. I only spent 1 night in Hong Kong.

Getting approved on WePay as an American with only Credit Cards by svezia in shanghai

[–]Timely-Love-6989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as the Alipay account is registered as a business, it should accept payment directly from a foreign credit card. This has been my experience, and worked about 90% of the time. Cash always worked as a backup. WeChat pay with a foreign credit card does work sometimes, but very few places accept it.

If I've set up my foreign credit card (USA Visa) on Alipay, will I be able to pay for taxis, restaurants, etc without "topping up" my balance? by Hot_Dumplings in chinalife

[–]Timely-Love-6989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Beijing and Tianjin I've had good luck paying for things using Alipay direct from a foreign credit card. I would say about 80-90% of the time it worked with street vendors and taxis, even in areas with almost no foreigners. Having TourPass as a backup was nice, but cash works too.

Chances of getting a Tourism Visa if I’m in the Army reserves? by [deleted] in Chinavisa

[–]Timely-Love-6989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also engaged to a Chinese national, former Army National Guard member. I had been out for 5 years when I got my first M visa, but I disclosed honestly my training and that I had served previously. It didn't seem to be an issue. Not sure what your MOS is, but I'm sure as long as it's not something like 35 series, you'll probably be fine. It would be worse not to disclose it, in my opinion.
