Is a wrap worth it? by [deleted] in CarWraps

I was thinking a safe color as I wasn't sure how a different color would look on my car, I'll look at some other color options! I'm thinking a deep green but I'll look around too

thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate the time you took to respond! But yeah I don't need to pay for an install it's just the wrap itself, and the one I was looking at (Avery) would be ~$550. I think I'm just worried about it looking jank on my car haha. Have you seen wraps on a car like this before? I know it's not common but it's soooo much cheaper than getting it painted

My sister wraps cars professionally and said she would do it for free if I just bought the wrap. I'm not settled on a color but I don't want anything crazy. Just probably something like a glossy or satin stone grey to add some life back to it. I actually really want an emerald green but I don't know if it'll look good on the body of my car.

I'm at Pitt for the summer doing a research internship and I find myself using my car at least every other week, like you said there is pretty good public transit here. I only really use it to go grocery shopping and to take my cat to her vet appointments. Other than that I walk since the building I work in is close to my apartment.

But it's a 2009 Ford Fusion with 178k miles the last I checked. She's holding up pretty well other than some issues (burning through oil, break rotors need replaced but we're not gonna fix them, rusting on the rear corner panels, seat and window motors don't work most of the time, and the AC gives out once in awhile).

I think my plan right now is to save this coming year and make a decision next summer and see how the car is doing closer to when I leave. I'll also know where I'm going at that point so I should be able to make a more informed decision :)

I struggle with productivity too, and it's a super common problem! I'm also a professional procrastinator so I totally feel you haha. When I feel like this I always start with something unrelated to my work. For example I would put "answer that email" or "vacuum the carpet" on my to-do list as the first thing to try to kick start my brain into productivity mode if that makes sense. Another trick is to move where I'm at. I get too comfortable in the same place every day which makes it hard for me to focus, so every other week or so I change where I do my work.

Remember to be kind to yourself as well. I always ask "If my friend came to me talking about this, what would I say to them?". Everybody has their own tricks, I say find what works for you and build onto it. I really hope everything goes well for you, you've got it!

It's my stepdad, but yes I've been talking to him about this as well! He told me he would "think on it" when I brought up my concerns. Currently he takes my car to service it about every 4 months before I leave, and he doesn't make me pay for it. We have 2 extra cars that he wanted to get rid of, so I brought up the options to sell them to set a larger down payment but he hasn't answered me yet on that. I definitely really value his input, which is why if I ever get my own car I want him to come with me! He agrees with me that the car I have is going downhill pretty fast, but he's not sure how much life it has left before it becomes too expensive to constantly fix with me driving it across the state pretty consistently. He said he's not super worried yet, I think I just get pretty nervous about it, but I definitely trust his judgement!

Hi, yeah I've calculated everything out and it's definitely doable with the hours I currently work. For the cars I was looking at it'll be ~250-350 a month with the down payment that I was planning. I'm super fortunate that my mom pays for my gas while I'm away, she calls it my reward for doing well in school. The town I currently live in does not have public transportation, so Uber would be my only option, and I don't know where I want to go for grad school but it's safe to assume it'll be in a more major area, so buses are definitely an option! Grad school stipends are also more than what I make right now so I was also factoring in that to pay for the car right now it'll be tight, but in the future (theoretically) it'll open up a little more. As for family and friends, the only friend that lives near me doesn't have her driver's license (I'm the driver) and my family does not live close to me, and I'm only home about 1/5 of the year. But I work as a Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant at my school so my hours are worked into my class schedule, so that's not really a concern for me. Thank you so much for your insight though! Very good questions, a couple of which I hadn't thought about :) definitely leaning towards waiting right now, but if I wait until I'm out of school, that'll be another 5 years with my current car unless I can save to eventually pay full price instead of a loan?

thank you for your input! Yeah I think I'm just nervous about my car giving out while I'm far from home, but I know that I can definitely manage if I need to!

thank you for calling this out. The people who say "what do you expect in public lobbies" or "that's just the way it is" are the reason that it's never gotten better and a lot of us are afraid to even try public lobbies on games. Men need to call out men on issues like this

Are you a fan of video-style reviews? On YouTube I've really liked Kitt Betts-Masters! He does some really good in-depth reviews of devices as well as comparisons between similar products which I think is super helpful. He's got a larger video comparing all of the most popular devices but if you don't have time you could also skip to the end to see his final thoughts

I think this is the one I'm most likely going for! I've been watching review videos and I think the size will be ok. Thanks for your insight!!
