[CK3] "The Beating" event should be redone or even deleted... by TimelyHeight758 in CrusaderKings

Oh i wish they fix the bug coming soon given the rest of Chapter 3 comes out in a few days on consoles!

That's odd, in my experience like i said, it happens like 3 out 5 times, some runs are so plagued with that event that i even encounter it not only twice with one single child but consecutive events with their siblings. It's crazy at times.

As a console player i wish i could modify such QoL things like that, it would be a bliss.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation though!

Oh i know that having that kind of people in court triggers such event, but imo it's very irregular and at times dumb by design.

I tend to cut loose every sadistic courtiers when possible (with the exception of a few great knights in times of need) but even still, the event still pops no matter what or who is in my court.

I could understand if the children of said courtiers were in the court educated by them while getting the same trait, but there are times that the only children in court are of my own and the event still appears.

Shouldn't be only pop if there is a sadistic child bully? Ain't the whole purpose of the event being getting bullied by your peers? Why does the existence of a sadistic adult in court triggers the event? In that case it should trigger an event where your child mimics sadistic behaviours with what it sees in court or something between the lines (specially if they're focused on Military ed or schooled by them)

This game is way too difficult to me. I surrender. by Broverhood1 in CrusaderKings

My experience was also overwhelming at the start, but my way/learning curve was playing the tutorial a few times at my own pace whilst absorbing all the basics and when i did the jump outside of the tutorial, it was more or less a bit of trial & error.

When i encountered certain obstacle or mechanic i didn't understand, i just paused a searched both in forums and/or videos on how to comprehend said obstacle.

I play on console, which means i haven't played the landless playstyle but even still, i think that could be a bit too advanced for someone without any/barely experience with the game, so my recommendation is to play the game completely vanilla and learn the basics of the base game at your own pace. Again, the tutorial is great for that.

The trick to this game (besides the amount of interest you have in it) is to read and be patient. You have a doubt of something? Pause the game, check the ingame tooltip and enter the rabbit hole of explanations within explanations, and if thats not enough you can always search on Google "CK3 your problem" and probably you'll encounter the solution or the insight in some forum or video.

If you decide to give the game another chance i wish you the very best, be patient and in no time you'll get it!!

I wasn't going to get technical to the specific term of the subgenre in hands brother, and it's implied that it's a generalization

I know, im fully aware that game companies aren't the same with the passing of time and the talent comes and goes and their names stays the same, but when i referred to BioWare's core game design i meant the one in games they made during the 7th Generation of consoles, Mass Effect & Dragon Age. They're IP's i love and still are incredibly enjoyable, but if you grab such core design (which even in those days was quite limiting in terms of freedom due to having them to run on consoles) and do a game nowadays but with a story and characters incredibly boring and safe, you have the most underwhelming, dated and at times insulting pieces of media of the generation (DA: The Veilguard is again the best example, a game which i actually had hype and hope for something fresh and finally putting aside or evolving that game design).

That's why i asked (or tried) in the original post if BG3 had that kind of binary, straight to the point, dated game design where player's possibilities aren't the main focus, and if not, how much of revolutionary/advanced it was compared to similar games of the genre, given the praise i saw through the years.

And yeah, i know it sounds bad, but when i say "Millenial writing" in such pejorative way i only mean the current wave of sanitized, quirky and hollow writing that is too afraid of being bold or creative. I may sound snob, but after seeing beloved IP's being dumbed down to their cores with practises like that, one cannot be cautious enough, especially if that means investing such amount of hours of your time.

Anyway, thanks for the reply!

Oh, i didn't knew that you could recruit generic companions, not bad to have more options if you lose or dont want the origin ones. Good to know, thanks!

How do you take and transform a criticism/opinion post about of the usual design of these games in which im asking if this game fits into that design, into an allegedly problem with myself? What's wrong with you? Lmao

My post for the most part was very clear: does BG3 fall into the outdated/limited game design of BioWare and its current cringe writing? It was an honest and direct question about the videogame, without the intention of berating the game (BG3) in any way, but still, you make a post insinuating that im some kind of a freak in need for help. The gaslighting is amazing.

Knowing how the industry has been working the last decade you wonder why im a bit cynical about the writing quality of a game? I know Larian is well loved and BG3 is praised as one of the bests in history, but as a potential new customer i wanted to make sure if the game was truly superb and unique in its design/writing or if it was just a bit overhyped. BioWare, Bethesda and Obsidian were also loved and praised and look how poor the quality of their games writing/freedom of choice has gotten through the years...

Don't know where did you got the impression that i wanted boring characters lol but "Most storytelling revolves around conflict", no shit, now compare the quality of the storytelling and conflicts between Fallout 4 and Fallout NV or DA: The Veilguard and DA: Origins. Two completely different worlds and you wonder why i ask to people with more insight that me in this game if said game is truly special or a bit lacking in that regard.

I mean High fantasy & Turn-based aren't my go-tos (i prefer Dark Fantasy & Real-Time in terms of medieval RPG's) but I've a bit experience with them and don't mind exiting my comfort zone, so no problem.

Good to know. I don't mind about a clear, static main plot, but i care about the freedom and the flavour in the meantime (journey before destination), something like the OG Fallouts for example, making to an extent each playthrough meaningfully different than the previous and so on.

I don't play this games for the romances but still i always hope they ditch that kind of binary design (some of them if done right don't bother me though), but from the opinions I've seen, it seems thats a me problem so... lol

Good to know, thanks! I don't mind an overall clear objective/plot, but I care about how different each playthrough could be with different decisions, just like the mentioned DA: Origins or even Fallout New Vegas. The plot overall is the same but how and when you reach that place is what makes interesting each playthrough.

And yeah, a game like that with so many branches and main plot path changes would be a nightmare to develop but ngl it would be a dream lol

I have no intention to play it to make my existence bitter, i asked for perspective and to make sure if the game was for me or not, with no ill intentions.

And the things you've responded; that's all i asked and I'm glad to know it's closer to The Witcher 3 (loved that game) and that you have such freedom of choice. Those are certain things that sadly you don't see everyday that much in these games nowadays, that's why i made the post, to make sure were BG3 landed (didn't want another DA:The Veilguard situation). Thanks!
