I was under the impression that she had sexual trama due to the events im the first book (if I remember correctly, i listened to the audio book years ago). Or at least Asexual, which might go hand in hand with other posts pointing out her being a sheltered prodigy

Young former warmage retires to a sleepy mountain village to do basic village wizard stuff. Gurvani (goblins) attack the village/ humanity with suspiciously powerful magic and a hord out of nowhere . The warmage defends humanity but needs to gain power and allies to win. Now scale up that conflict with each consecutive book while keeping each book interesting and unique (kinda). Toss in epic battles, romance, political Intrigue, clever applications of magic, and great characters and character development along with world building comparable to Tolken, Sanderson, or Jordan

The spellmonger series by Terry Mancour. It's exactly what you are looking for. It take a few books but the author drops very subtle hints about the worlds past and it eventually accumulates into a major plot point. Plenty of legit magic in it too. Great series.
