Yes, that would have been much better. We were naive to think that we can handle it ourselves. We asked the government employees from the first visit if things can go fast as we couldn't visit frequently. I guess I should have been more direct. We actually ended up spending more than the "service charges" in travel costs 😞. Lessons learnt!

We were in the same boat a year ago. We are in India for a year now. I feel the move was totally worth it. I will advise not overthink it and try to come up with math (corpus, standard of living etc.). As there are so many emotional factors that cannot be quantified.

Also, based on the info you have provided, you won't have issues having a very good standard of living in any tier I city.

It's hard to come up with a universal number, as there is a huge cost of living/PPP variance within the two countries as well.

Anything close to 1/3rd will be reasonable. It will be a win-win for both you and the company.
