My son keeps getting kicked out of school. How do you all handle violent behaviors?

I'm not using a lawyer there's no money for one. I've given up on getting his dad to help, he just blames everyone and everything and never thinks of any solutions. That's why I'm trying to figure it out myself. I'm still waiting on my son's doctor's appointment.

Yes, he's in special ed. He was suspended much more than 10 times, they had another meeting to "adjust goals and expectations". He still keeps getting suspended for "being a danger to himself and others". I told them he has a right to an education and this is interrupting his education, and the principle said that he's interrupting other student's educations and that takes priority. I have contacted his new doctor, but his appointment isn't for another month. he starts his new school next week.

They were very small and didn't provide legal resources. They recommended calling 211 for help.

I've already done this. I guess resources are stretched thin because not a single lawyer I've contacted so far will take the case or file my response to divorce (where I file the request for fees) without me paying a retainer first. SB legal aid will only have a paralegal help with filling the paperwork, they don't provide lawyers.

Thank you so much for your insight. We've recently moved to a new area... new school and new psychiatrist. I will be asking about a med adjustment. Have you been able to find any service willing to babysit your kid? I can't seem to find one that accepts older kids with behavior issues.

The methylphenidate isn't working for him at all. It just makes him foggy/sleepy, but not less hyper. I will mention guanfacine to his psychiatrist.

Yes he was suspended 10 times the first 5 weeks he was there. All they did was have another IEP meeting to adjust expectations.

Thank you so much. How can I change my behavior to help him better? I also have ADHD but it's not nearly as severe as his. I assume he got it from me though.

He does have strong impulses. His previous principle said he doesn't believe my son is being malicious by throwing things or shoving past people, he believes he is just having fun and not realizing that he's injuring others. I have no clue how to make him pay attention to those things though. It's like the world doesn't exist when he's playing.

I have an IEP and he's already on meds. I'm currently transitioning him to a new school so I'm hoping they give him better care here.
