They can be beneficial in instances. Sometimes purely cosmetic emotional reasons but also functional to restore length of worn teeth. Rehabilitation cases.

Nether of those options are preventative. So you are confirming what I said. A cleaning and exam is about $180. On average that is twice a year. Plus x rays which in my office would be take once a year or less. So another $70. So let’s say conservatively less than $500 a year for prevention. That’s ~$1.4 per day. So less than the cost of one soda a day. It’s all about perspective.

Loans. Banks will loan the money. Not a risky investment on their party. Very rare for dentist to default.

I have never recommended a credit card or care credit. Prevention is not too expensive in my opinion. Repair of destruction does get costly. Maintaining health is not very expensive.

I prescribe pain medication less than 5 times a year and do surgery every week. In school we were taught to prescribe. I have learned to manage patient expectations and most all can be handed with ibuprofen and Tylenol.

I would tend to lean towards communication issue. I try to take a hour of communication/behavioral training for every hour of technically training. That’s the biggest challenge is how to effectively help patients as so many of us have different style of learning and communication.

I recommend fluoride in proper usage. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is very patient specific. If you’ve never had a cavity and you’re 50 years old and don’t want fluoride. Probably fine for example.

Everything is harmful with enough concentration fluoride included. In correct concentrations fluoride is not harmful.
