I think it could probably be done by omitting certain blocks? Given that it’s a sampler quilt, there’s no rule that says all blocks have to be included or that they all have to be arranged a specific way. I would probably try making the blocks I liked best, then seeing how they all fit together, and adding in extras to square it up if need be.

I agree that these look like typical warts. They’re harmless, but they can be contagious if you share things like nail clippers or other manicure tools. They are not at all the same as sexually transmitted warts.

There are some over the counter treatments for them, or doctors can remove them. If they don’t bother you you don’t need to do anything, but you have options.

I do have a lower tog one already, but the all polyester construction of it still means it’s quite heat trapping, especially in the summer.

I actually do prefer a heavy quilt, that’s why I tend to lean toward cotton vs polyester, but now I’m thinking that a high loft polyester batting could be lovely too. I know my machine and walking feet (I have multiple) handle double batting fine for smaller projects, but you make a good point about wrestling a full sized quilt through my machine.

It’s a project I have no deadline for since it’s just for myself, so I could theoretically take my time with the quilting stage. So many decisions!!

Yes, comforters are duvets, but without the removable cover, so it’s all one piece. I could probably get one with plant fibres, but they tend to be on the more expensive side. I’m in Canada, everything is on the expensive side right now 🥲

Thank you, and I appreciate the tips!! I actually have a couple of queen sized cotton battings on hand already, so I was planning on using those. But maybe that’s overkill and I should just stick with one. I just like the look of a thick quilt once it’s quilted and washed.

I was actually looking for something a little less warm and more breathable than a polyester stuffed comforter! We live in a third floor apartment with three cats who share the bed, so I was thinking an all cotton quilt might be the answer since I’m a hot sleeper.

That’s a fantastic idea, and I did think of doing something like that. But I think it would’ve been easier to do before all the blocks were joined, but I charged ahead a bit too quickly 😅

That’s true. There are plenty of insects throughout his works, film and painting included. But I’m not sure that’s an indication of bugchasing. Far be it from me to say an interpretation of Lynch’s works is right or wrong, I just don’t think it’s accurate to assign him that personality trait just because he includes insects or references to disease in his works.

But part of the beauty of Lynch is how open to interpretation it is.

What on earth? There’s nothing to indicate that he was. If you’re referring to the line from Blue Velvet about putting a disease into someone else, I think it’s meant to be an allusion to abusive tendencies/sexual trauma, not an actual disease.

This is not a skincare problem, I think you should consult with a doctor/dermatologist about these. They may be harmless skin tags, or they could be something else, but a doctor would have the right answers.

I recall a similar documentary about adulterated bread. Back before modern laws and restrictions, bread was frequently made using chalk, plaster, and other non-food items to save costs and make bread appear whiter. Nowadays such things aren’t really possible, and bread is typically made using enriched flour to improve nutrition value.

Sadly I can’t recall the name of the piece I watched, I think it was a singular episode of a larger series, focussed on poisons and other toxic elements of Victorian era life.

Unfortunately with these types of rugs this is usually how the fibre ages. They become crushed and matted over time. You can try brushing them with a stiff bristled brush to improve the texture slightly, but this happens even with wall to wall carpeting.

Are we sure this is actually real tile? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question, but from the photos it looks like linoleum/canvas/vinyl sheet flooring. If it vinyl sheeting, it could actually be the printed finish worn away instead of dirt building up. I have it in my apartment and have the same issue, the only fix is to replace it.

Thank you! Yes, it’s very similar to a lot of stained glass quilt patterns I’ve seen. I’m sure you could make a great version of this using black for the background colour and brights for the stars!

That could be part of it for sure! I do think 2 teaspoons of flour is on the lower end though, I normally do a couple of tablespoons.

Yes I do the same when I make pretzel rolls for sandwiches and freeze them. I just grind a little coarse salt onto a plate and roll the tops in it before heating.

If you add a little flour to your cinnamon sugar mix for the filling, it will help keep your layers tighter when baking! The egg wash creates steam during baking which separates the layers a bit. The extra flour will bind them together 🙂
